Amp Rack

The amp rack (for the back speakers) in the trunk are becoming loose and every time I hit a bump it rattles big time. I have tried getting in the trunk with a ratchet to try to tighten the bolts. They just spun and didn't seem to ever tighten. Any one have this problem and know how to fix it? What bolt sizes are they? etc.. any advice would be great. Thanks.

Re: Amp Rack

Sure i can get one when i get off of work today. If it helps it's the original rack that comes with the car. It has four deep holes centered up in between both hidden amps. The rack, which is more like a cover, stretches from the left to the right of the car.

Re: Amp Rack

speakers, amps, then the protective amp rack/cover. Again the problem is in the trunk of the car. Hell, not sure about the speakers or amp size. Maybe 6x9's /shrug sholders. The stock mach rear speakers were replaced with alpines (before i bought the car) and the amps I assume are original. I'll get a photo up after work.

Re: Amp Rack

I took the bolts out and put locking washers(you can use any washer) so it had different thread to grab.

Re: Amp Rack

That sounds like a good idea. I'll try taking them out and scoop up some washers at Ace or someplace.

I dont remember the size bolt or anything. But i grabbed lock washers for the fact or they are thicker. If i had it to do over again i would grab flat washers.

Re: Amp Rack

only thing is, is if the bolt wasn't grabbing the original threads well in the first place how would a single washer help solve that problem?

Re: Amp Rack

um, it's changing the pattern up a bit by using washers. It's sits up higher ... thus giving it a different angle if you will. I really need a scientist emoticon right about now.

Re: Amp Rack

It gives it new thread to grab on to. Ive done it with stripped bolts before. It also seemed to work in this application. Another way is to get a tap and a bigger bolt. Or you may just try thread tape. Ive never done it that way so dont know how long it will hold if at all.

Re: Amp Rack

I will try the washer thing this weekend and if it works, I will celebrate with multiple beers and if it doesn't will probably still have multiple beers just not as happy.
