its been proven that when done right the IRS is faster in the mustang vs the SRA, just harder to dial it in.

I've found that with the right setup the IRS will launch just as good and hard as a SRA setup. I've actually cut a 1.45 60' with stock tranny and half shafts.

Yes it will. Too many people are drinking the "The Solid Rear is God" koolaid.

Re: Terminator vs GT500

Well styling wise the GT500 is has better lines. As for speed, the GT500 stock is going to beat a Termi Stock. Modding really will dip in the GT500's favor.
Agility wise the Termi might be a better all out track car. GT500 is more of a 1/4 mile or drag car. It handle's fairly well but nose dives with heavy pressure on the brakes.
As for the feel, well the GT500 is very refined. Then again so is the Cobra. You something that is raw and violent, drive a Viper. You can't get close to the torque of a big V10.
Then again I own a GT500 so I am a bit biased, but I have driven both.

Did you watch either vid where the GT500 lost both drag races?

Re: Terminator vs GT500

well granted the gt500 has a damn impressive powerplant, but its a 2 ton boat. it has trouble beating vettes, where the termy's have little issue doing. pound for pound, the termy just outshines the gt500, thats my .02. yea the shelby can produce hgher numbers, but it needs it to propel that weight that goes with it.

Re: Terminator vs GT500

yea people see the 110hp and 90tq advantage the gt500 has over the 03/04 cobra. What they dont realize as the 03/04 actually had on average 425hp/415tq so now we are at 75/65 advantage (not getting into the larger displacement and power band stuff...) Then you have to consider the weight difference that effects that a bit more as in how the power can be used. The suspension is better though on the new ones~ thus crappy track times on stock 03/04s ... no good 60fts lol.

You do know that the weight difference between a 2003 Terminator and a 2008 GT500 is only 255lbs.

Terminator = 3,665lbs (coupe)
GT 500 = 3,920lbs (coupe)

Stock it is pretty much a drivers race. Mod wise, well I would bet on the GT500 being faster as it has a bigger engine.

Re: Terminator vs GT500

Read back through the thread and watch the vid I posted of them going head to head...both modded (pulleyed)...and see which wins.

Yes, eventually the GT500 will gain enough power mod for mod to outrun the cobra...however not only is there a weight difference but the 03 cobra was somewhat like trying to push a brick through the air...the GT500 is like trying to push a cinder block through the air. The aerodynamics are a hit to the GT500 as well. It is much boxier in the front.

Also, 255 lbs is a loss of roughly 2.5 tenths in the 1/4 mile....just image how quick a stock GT500 would be if they didn't lose those 2.5 tenths.

The supercharger on the GT500 is rather inadequate. Even with a pully swap the Eaton is just pathetic.
Put a Whipple or Kenn Bell on it then have them race.
Not to mention the GT500 also has a lot of wheel hop stock.

Re: Terminator vs GT500

Uh, dude, your arguments are going no where. You want to talk wheel hop? Ask someone with the IRS in the 03/04 cobra...we are the mack daddy of wheel hop...

And um...the eaton on the GT500 is actually a much better, more efficient design than the one on the 03/04 cobras....but I agree, still garbage compared to twin screw.

And you can't compare a race between a kb/whipple GT500 with a pullied eaton cobra...to make the appropriate comparison, put the same kb/whipple on the cobra.

However, like I stated before, once you go to the better blowers...you will start to get more return on your investment due to the increase in displacement so that you can overcome the shortcomings of the GT500. However, both will be over the 600 rwhp mark.

I'm curious, are you familiar with the 03/04 cobras much? It's just that your points don't give that impression.

I have a friend who races an 03 Terminator. The whole argument is that the GT500 is SOOO much heavier than the 03. Fact is it is only 255lbs heavier.
Not to mention if you do plan to mod the GT500 you can shed that weight relatively easy.
As for speed and power, well to take a page from the Viper book: There is no replacement for displacement. Bigger engine (not always) for the most part will put down more power.

For me style is more important than anything else. You can always make a car go faster. Changing the way it looks well that is a problem.

Re: Terminator vs GT500

Well, quite the discussion goin on here. I personally would take the cobra. I grew up loving that car. Even though the GT 500 is closely related to the 00 Cobra R, the terminator gets my vote.

Recent observation, I did happen to see some genius driving his mystichrome cobra yesterday in 28 degree weather..in Wisconsin, with salt and patches of snow on the road! Some people!

Re: Terminator vs GT500

in 03 when I bought mine some tard ordered one and took delivery in February at the same time I was supposed to have mine delivered only mine was delayed. I lived in upstate NY near buffalo at the time. Needless to say, a few weeks after he got the car, I passed the remains of it on my home from work on the interstate...it was effectively spread over the road for about 3/4 of a mile starting on the left where he hit the center rail back to the right where he hit the other rail...and continued to spread pieces of the car as he slowly slid to a stop.

His statement was "It's just a mustang". Well, not any more...now it's just a pile of busted as parts.

I had mine for one winter in NY. It went inside a barn on jack stands the second week of october and didn't come out until the first weekend of may...but didn't get driven until 3 good rain storms after the last snow.

Where abouts in Buffalo, I am from Lackawanna. Both my sports cars are already in storage. Viper in a Car capsule and the GT500 is in an enclosed Trailer. Tucked away for the nasty winter.

I was from outside if buffalo...I say buffalo because I Was from the stick. I'm from a town called Perry...right next to Letchworth state park...or, Geneseo if you don't know either of the other two names. lol

My mothers side of the family are all from Akron...so I spent a lot of time there.

If you are still in the buffalo area, check the Lake George link in my sig. A number of us will be in the falls for a few days come september. Brent and I were just there this past september and were able to meet up with Rocket 442 who is from Buffalo.

Unhappy Re: Terminator vs GT500

Just put the "Blacksnake" into hibernation. Hated to do it. Weather is
looking good (For Dec. in Maine) all next week. Was afraid of a
Nor' easter sneaking up on me. Kind of like lake effect snowstorms
in Buffalo. Will be coming out early April (hopefully). Oh well, can
save on insurance until then. Have a good winter.

See...there's just no way I could do that. I'll admit...I was beating the freezing rain coming down on the way...but it was worth it. Although, 295 street tires and a cold wet road do make for some *** clamping moments on a road trip on the roads around here.

Angry Re: Terminator vs GT500

That's cool, but it's a lot different this time of year, and immediate
future, on the Hiway, in the northland, than in Ole' Miss. If you were
to ever encounter "Black Ice", (no it's not a new drink), at speed,
you would look like one of the NASCAR guys doing a major spinout
only there's no level infield here to land on. No rollbars either.
As Led Zep once said, We come from the land of ice, and snow,
where the harsh winds blow. Keep driving, it will make me feel
better, knowing someone in the country is still enjoying their ride.
