Ignition lock cylinder

Last year, I bought a 1994 Mustang Convertible really cheap because it had a blown head gasket and the convertible top needs replacing. The car had been repoed and in the process, the ignition lock was broken. When I bought the car, the keys couldn't be found, so I have no keys to the car -- but I do have clear title to the car.

Before we took the motor out of the car and disconnected the computer, the steering column wasn't locked and the car could be cranked with a screw driver. Now, the steering column is locked and I can't get the ignition lock cylinder to turn to the Run position so I can change the cylinder.

Any idea how to get the steering column unlocked so I can replace the ignition lock cylinder?

Any help would be appreciated. Would rather spend money on parts than a locksmith.

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

is the steering wheel locked in a position where you can't get the wheel off the column?
if that isn't the case, just remove the wheel and locking plate. while in their replace the lock cylinder, and your good to go

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

on my 97 and my 01 sometimes the key would get stuck or wouldnt turn. I would have to pull the wheel a bit to the left or so to get it to work

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

Thanks HottCobra. Had thought about pulling the steering wheel off, but wasn't sure that I could even get to the steering column lock from there or not. This would have been a much easier task if the guy that I bought it from could have found the keys.

SpectorV, thanks for your advice, but it doesn't help much since I don't have the keys to the car.
