I've never had a problem switching from regular oil to synthetic. I used to be a fan of Mobil 1, but have since learned that it isn't a true synthetic. (Thanks Everett) I will be switching to Royal Purple on both my cars as soon as an oil change is due.

Yes,so is Amsoil and Red-line. Mobil 1 is good oil too but they use hydrocracked group 3 basestocks which are conventional. The above 3 use group 4 basestocks which are synthetic. Don't bother with synthetics if you aren't going to follow the manufacturers oil change intervals. Synthetics are fairly advanced with their add-packs and have amazing cleaning abilities which are known to cause leaks in higher mileage motors. Royal purple and red-line also contain moly which in my own experiences has improved mileage in my chevy. Oil has come a long way so as long as you are following the engine spec(sm,sj) then your fine. The 5w20 spec is a joke however I suggest a w30 for better protection and reduced wear.

Mobil actually produces the super-tech line of oil at wal-mart so if you want to save a buck use that. It's the same stuff that's in the mobil bottles. The conventional mobil bottles. Not mobil 1. Mobil is a group 2 basestock. Mobil 1 is a hydrocracked group 3.

I gotta warn you tho that site is super addictive. Once you get started and realize oil just isn't oil anymore it raises more questions, then you need more answers that lead to more questions. Vicious cycle

So I Decided to go with the royal purple synthetic oil but since I got my car used it didn't have owners manual. How much oil is standard for the 08 v6?

That is a very good choice. Rp contains molybdenum disulfide and is an amazing wear and friction reducer. And I think your sump holds 7 liters. I may be mistaken and it's only 6 tho. Let us know if you get an mpg increase. It won't be completely my plated til about the 3rd tank so maybe see what you get now. Then on your 4th fill up. I am gonna guess a 30 mile per tank improvement. I bought the liqui-moly additive and it's amazing. 100 kms more per tank in my truck.

Mobil makes that oil and DO NOT PUT 5w20 in. Ford only recommends that because of the CAFE laws. 5w30 for sure. And super-tech is fine if you change it at 3000 miles. Rp can go 7500

Great oil. And it contains moly. If you stick with it it will prolong engine life

Re: Oil?

I'm at 210,00 miles now. I know oil is only a part of how well the car goes but I want to mention that I use Mobil1Extend 5W30. It performs. The engine is 'silent" when running. My dyno sheets kick ***. The Mobil1 used under reasonable intervals is just as good as anything else. I choose my own preference of K&N oil filters or Motorcraft when optional.
Just a FYI- Royal Purple offers a Racing formula with addition protection, just no government approval rating to go with it. Great stuff though~ Royal Purple. Can not go wrong with that. Awesome product.
