Rear axle fluid

Hey guys! I was just on firestones website and it says at around 45000 miles (I have 44000 on the car) I should do a rear axle fluid replace. Is this them just trying to make a sale or will I actually need this? This is my first mustang so if this is a stupid question I am kinda a newbie!

If I do need it what brand fluid do you suggest?!?
Thanks!

I do mine every thirty thousand. But I do alot of heavy racing. 45000 is about right. when you do it, don't forget your limited slip additive.

+1...

where is he, he usually is on this forum 24/7

darkshadows has a pretty good answer, but what throws me is that my service manual on my truck, (no posi unit) says change it at every 100,000 k... now while thats a truck and an 8.8, I dont see why a light duty rear-end (yours) would need to be changed less... Regardless, good luck!

Ended up going to firestone for my sisters tires...well I was there one of the guys told me that ford calls for a replacement every 3000 miles but he thinks that way overdoing it since it's about 100$ every replacement!
Thanks for the responses! Also does Texan know alot about this? Should I just message him directly?!

Re: Rear axle fluid

the OEM rear end fluid is generally good to 100k, but you can change it if you want you just have to remove the diff cover since they dont have a drain... or suck it out.

My rear posi went out at 60k So trust me when I say, 100k might be a hair too long to wait.

Being that the posi in the mustangs are a clutch type, it would require more frequent changes.
