Update. The syncros were fine in the tranny. There is a sleeve that acts like a break. It stops the gears from spinning when you apply the clutch. Well the one for first and second gear was warn out. The mechanic said it could be from downshifting from such a high rpm range. Thing is I do not do that. Just throw the car on neutral and use the brakes. Brakes are much cheaper to replace.

He was probably talking about downshifting for getting better acceleration.

That is what I thought but he said it is from downshifting from a high rpm to try and stop thr car. Dont think anyone that has driven a standard for 20 years will downshift to the wrong gear to gain rpms.

Re: Put my baby in the shop

yeah well that is good news that they were able to find the problem quickly now for them to resolve it and for you to test it and get back out on the road with your pony. HOw many days did they say it would take to fix?

lol yeah the chrysler 300 is suppose to be classy but it like every other dodge including the viper has the same cheap plastic dash unless they upgraded u to wood grain then thats top of the line

You don't downshift to keep going fast while driving "hot" and someone slows you down by coming in the way?

Been driving a stick for so long I very rarely ever select a wrong gear. Brakes are so much cheaper to replace than a transmission.

Re: Put my baby in the shop

that they are I have just been recently getting in the habit of not holding the clutch down at stop lights because of a thread here and how its not healthy for the transmission

What he is referring to is let's say your in 5th gear running 60 and you downshift to 2nd and pop the clutch to lock up the rear wheels and slow down. And no I do not do that. But yes if I was to race a ****ty or a dodge i will downshift however I am still keeping toward momentum. I an not trying to use the transmission as a Jake brake per say.

Yeah some people do. They will downshift from 5th to 4th and so forth until they slow down enough then use the brake. I know stupid huh. I have taught my 16 year old boy to drive a stick and that was one thing I never showed him. By the way he drives a 2006 focus st.

Re: Put my baby in the shop

I downshift all the time to slow down, and I have never had any issues... But I only drop one gear at a time, and I blip the throttle to match speed..... I think it's a habit from driving big trucks...

Update. Well the car has been in the shop for two weeks. I have been driving a Chrysler 300 touring (hate the car). I called the dealer today and they are still waiting on parts. I trust the dealership since they do all the work on the car I can't. They ordered 22 parts for it. Seems would have been easier and faster to just replace the entire transmission. Oh well it is under warranty and so as long as it is fixed right I don't care.

Dealership called an said car should be ready on Monday. Apparently they could not get a couple of parts. The mechanic wants to drive it again on Monday to make sure things are smooth.
I mentioned would have been easier to put a new tranny in but the warranty people for Ford would not allow them.
