CEL and code P0442

My 07 keeps getting a CEL. I have an OBDII code reader. The code is P0442. I have read it could be a vacuum line or my gas cap. The first time it happened I checked my cap. I tightened it a few clicks and cleared the code. A few days later it came back. This has happened for a few days so I'm thinking it must be something else. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: CEL and code P0442

According to the Chiltons Manual I have it says probable cause, " Evaporative Emissions control System Small leak detected." My guess it's somethng to do in the vacuum line. I'd have a trusty mechanic look at it. The dealer isn't bad as a last resort.

I would get a trusted mech. to look at it before trying a dealer.

Re: CEL and code P0442

I have a warranty on the car. Guess I'll have to take it in. I was hoping it would be something I could check myself.

Thanks!

Take it in.. ford esp? If so you shouldn't have any problems.

Not the Ford plan, it's through the place I bought it from. They tell me where to take it and pay the bill.

I have Ford ESP Basecare and noticed my CEL... Took it to the dealer to have it checked. They told me my air/fuel ratio was lean, and their fix would be to charge me about a grand to pull off my aftermarket air intake and replace it with one of the little factory ones. no thanks.
