High pitched engine noise whine

I have a 2008 v6 auto prem coupe pony package I've had ever since it had single digit mileage, bought back in April 2008. I've always noticed that I hear a high pitched noise only while going 60-65mph on the highway. Basically the noise starts at exactly 60mph and exits at 65mph, if you let off the gas it goes away and if you say go up to 65 mph the noise is gone as well as below 60mph but once you drop speed from 65 down between 60-65mph and then accelerate the noise comes back. So as long as you step on the gas sometime during 60-65mph u hear the noise and it goes away once you hit 65mph. My guess was this is normal for the 4.0l engine just not sure. I hear a low tone hit around 40-45ish but thats when it changes gear it sounds nice, just the high pitch makes u not wanna go 60-65 and go 55 or 70 on the highway constantly lol.

I have heard something similar from my car but have always thought it was the wind through the honeycomb front grill.

I know exactly what you mean. I thought it was just my car! It sounded like my antenna was loose on my '08 before I traded it in for a '12

Probably not the problem but have you checked you tranny fluid? My '99 Tahoe started doing something like that right before the front planetary blew along with the rest of the tranny. It did it for probably three months. Not to scare you or anything, of course. But it wouldn't hurt to check or change it.

Re: High pitched engine noise whine

Thanks for the replies! Yeah it still puzzles me. Its happened the entire time I've owned it. Dealership doesn't know what it is just figures its all noise and nothing harmless of course XD. So much for the weird random whistle. Its gettin close to 30k miles I'll prob have 'em check the tranny fluid since its a sealed transmission at the dealership. Guess they're not happy with the customer trying to change the fluids.
