Clicking near transmission

So today I got into my car after school and turned the car on. When I hit the break to put my car into drive, I heard a click come from my transmission. I released the break and pressed down again and it still clicked. I figured out that it only clicks if my car is in park. Found out it could be from a break light short or blown fuse. Any one have this problem? Want to make sure it's not too bad of a problem before I take it in. Thanks!

Re: Clicking near transmission

I believe what you are hearing is the "lock" release is all. Try shifting from Park without pressing the brake pedal and you will see that it is locked. Push the pedal - "click" - and the lock is released while you hold the pedal allowing you to move from the park position.

The click happens every time I tap the break in park. I can feel it if I put my hand on the transmission. It had never done this before until yesterday

Re: Clicking near transmission

That is the transmission lock like I said - you will only feel it in park. It prevents the transmission from moving out of park unless you have your foot on the brake. You just never noticed it before is all.
