Passenger Side Airbag cover

I found this forum through a search and saw someone else had posted about the same problem back in November.

I bought this car May 2010, brand new, and now mine is finally doing the same thing:

My car is out of the 36k warranty and I'm working with Ford to see if I can get it replaced without costing $$$.

While I'm waiting to see what they decide, have any of you also had this problem and what did you do about it? And if I get it replaced, what might my options be if it happens again? Ford tells me it's not a safety issue, but it really is kind of a flea under my skin. The car's not two yet (and I'd planned on having it until it was at least 10).

Are there aftermarket things out there I might look into, or a fix I could make myself? Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give!

Ha, thanks. I probably could have gone on and introduced myself, but oh well.

It is just a cover and easy to replace.

Lol, yeah back in November that was me that posted about the cover popping out. The dealer took care of it and I haven't had any problems since. You're barely out of your warranty, I would press them about the matter and tell them it had been doing it but you were never able to take it in. The noisier you are the more likely they'll just wanna take care of it to get rid of you. Lol, good luck!

Gil_T2: can you link me to instructions or a video? I am mechanically inclined, but I will openly admit I am a very timid mechanically inclined. I like to see it done first if I can help it!

Primer2tone: yours was the response I was looking for. Ford called me back today and tried to explain that it was just the way it was, but I was wanting to see how yours turned out. They worked out with a dealership to cover the replacement with a $100 deductible. I've spent the afternoon trying to decide if it's worth it!

Ugh, $100! How much is the cover?
I can tell you this much, when my cover kept popping out, it was an eye sore and I was always drawn to it when I would be driving. I probably would've paid the deductible if I were out of warranty.

It is just a cover it's not attached to the air bag. So you could try to remove it and glue the loose end and then put it back on. Just disconnect your battery to be on the safe side.

Re: Passenger Side Airbag cover

I *think* the service adviser said the piece by itself is $150. Don't hold me to that though, it's been a week since I talked to them and my memory could be faulty.
