Lol yes but its a thread worth bringing up again for new info. Some people might not have been able to get in on the last one. But this thread should be about everything from mpgs to 0-60

Well lets see... hp=3.7, tq=3.7, mpg's=3.7, 0-60=3.7, 1/4m=3.7. Longevity? Maybe the 4.0 but no one knows how the 3.7's will hold up so that really can't be answered for certain. But that mostly depends on how you treat your car. Personally if the 3.7 gives me 100,000 miles I'll be happy because by then I would hope to have traded it in. What's left to compare?

Mod response? The 4.0 responds much better to mods, but that's about it, and sounds better

Mod response? Maybe, I'm really not sure as I haven't seen a comparison. As for sound? I think that's more personal opinion. I love the sound of my 12! But I've heard some pretty nice 4.0's with the right setup! Got a friend with shorty headers, x-pipe into magnaflows on his 4.0 and it sounds nice! Best 4.0 I've heard. Has a very deep tone. But still prefer my 12's

Hey now I'm a 4.0 owner and I love it with a vortech strapped to units so fun. Some benefits is that it has an iron block so you can abuse it a bit more with boost, nos, and other power adders. I have lots of respect for the 3.7 and all and I wan one to play around with. I'm just awaiting for them to throw the sho or new focus rs 4cyl turbo into one and I'm game for a new car.

No i have mad respect for the 4.0. The grandma thing was just a joke. In all seriousness the 4.0 sound just isnt my favorite. But trust me i have a 4.0 in my sport trac and love it. Im just curious about what it is like in a mustang thats all. Nothing wrong with cracking harmless jokes about other motors. You could just as well say the 3.7 drives like a fiesta below 3,500rpm. Nooo powerrr and i have a tune too!

Re: 4.0 vs 3.7

I love my 4.0 with the Xcharger Xtreme - and it does scream when you get on it, no mistaking it at the track.

I'm going to be getting a 2013 and will miss the Xcharger and the instant torque. But from what I have been able to find out there isn't enough room for a roots type blower on the 3.7. So the options are limited to a centri or turbo.

Keep ur 4.0 for a dd until it craps out. You said u had like 200k in another forum so save the 2013's mileage!

Re: 4.0 vs 3.7

If I part it out the Xcharger Xtreme will be listed for sale (several people have said they are interested both here and at mustangcollective.com). My wife wants me to try selling it first as modified.

And I thought about keeping it (mileage at 201,500 right now) - and put it on a weight reduction for racing, build a new engine over the winter, but there isn't any room for it at the house unfortunately, and I can't afford to buy a shop like one of my friends did.

Wow that's impressive 200,000 when did you install the xcharger? I installed my vortech at 60,000 currently have 120,000 I used to commute from napa to San Jose on a daily basis but the mustang was my backup. My primary was my ae86 which had 5 engine swaps and 330,000 on the odometer when I sold it.

Re: 4.0 vs 3.7

I put the Xcharger on in August 2009 with 90,000 miles on the car. It is my daily driver and I commute from Port Huron to Grosse Pointe, Michigan (45 miles one way) so mostly highway miles on the car.

How's she running? Still as quick as the day you installed it? How much boost do you run? I've got a 12psi pully on my vortech and it's been ├╝ber reliable. I want to put 238557 miles on my odometer before I get a new one, that way ican say I've driven it to the moon. Only problem I've had with my stang was my gas cap fell apart in my hand when I took it off one day to fill it.

The guy who makes the xcharger lived just north of me. The only reason why I didn't get his kit was because smog legalities for the manual transmission were not complete and I didnt have time to have to do this kind of thing "work".

I've decided however after having boost I can live with a v6 or a 4cyl as long as I have the turbo or sc for insurance that I win that stoplight drag race.

Re: 4.0 vs 3.7

It ran 12's last time at the track so still running quick and strong. I run between 10 and 12 lbs of boost, it spikes up as high as 15 just before it shifts.

I actually just ordered my 2013 this past week, and went with the 3.7. My plan is to turbo this one. The positive displacement roots type blower like the Xcharger won't fit in the space between the heads on the 3.7. Dave and Patty at Explorer Express are great to deal with and I'm going to miss the scream of the Xcharger.

I decided to stay with the V6 because it is such a great feeling to beat a V8 at the track, and then have them walk up in the pits and count the spark plug wires and say "crap, I just got beat by a 6". Last Saturday there were several Mustangs there, including two 2012 5.0's - and I was running quicker times than both of them. They even were telling one of my friends at the track on Sunday "we were getting killed by a V6 yesterday, running 12's with over 200,000 miles on it".

I got excited when the 3.7 came out wanted one as well. I'm going to hold off until they come out with a ecoboost 6 or 4. I got all giddy when they started talking about a revival of the svo.

I was running high 12's as well with my vortech last time I was at the track. Have all bolt on's and completely California smog legal...something you don't have to worry about haha.

Post up pics of your new one when you get it! Are you planning on going with an sts kit?

Probably not the STS - I'm not sure I like the exposed air intake at the rear of the car, and it seems like that long run will take some time to spool up.

I saw one guy who had the same concern "exposed intake" and drilled holes into his trunk and had it suck air from the trunk. But yeah I'd have similar concerns with lag.
