Lost a Key

So here is the thing, the ignition key is not the same as the door because I had the same key. I need the key for the ignition.

Only thing I need really is to know how to program the key so I can avoid the programming fee...which is about 100 bucks. If there is no way possible other than paying some locksmith to come over, let me know! I had to drive my sisters car, and don't intend to drive it tomorrow morning. Any help will be appreciated.

It all depends on the key... My dad lost one of his keys to his corvette, so he got the blank with the special chip Chevy put into that certain model and is going to get it cut. There is no programming for it needed so it is about $10 for the blank and $2 for the person to cut it. I'm not sure how ford does it, it might be different

Re: Lost a Key

I believe it is a "smart" key. Which is what they are calling it. The key itself costs about $20, and the programming is about $100. I did not even consider it getting cut.

Re: Lost a Key

You have to have 2 working keys to program another key for the ignition. The PATS will not allow you to program a key with only one ignition key - stops valets from cutting keys and picking up your car later.

If you lost a key then you have to go to the dealer to get a new key cut and program the system.

The good news is that once that is done you can buy a third key, have it cut, and program the keys yourself. Then if you lose one you will have 2 keys and can program a new one.

As stated above you have to have 2 programmed keys to program a new one. Without that you have to pay the programming fee.
