Turbocharger

So I just got this app and I have seen there Are a few discussions about turbos and superchargers. I know a lot of people who disagree about putting a turbo on a mustang but I believe it would be better for my v6. The only thing is I don't know much about the brands or prices. I was wondering if anyone knew a good setup to buy or a good brand.

Vortech seems to be the most popular

Yea I have heard the best from vortech for superchargers. That's the way I would go if I had the extra money. You can get the whole kit for about $1300.

They are from vertical doors inc. I like these ones because they will open normally as well.

I saw a non-tuner, non-intercooled kit for 2700 before. Only extra you need to but are the fuel injectors ajd tuner if you dont already have one.

Re: Turbocharger

For a turbo system the one that I have seen people have the most success with is the one from powerhouse411.com It put my friend's car into the 11's at the track, and has been proven on many cars already.

For superchargers, I had the Xcharger Xtreme on the car I just sold. Installed it with 99,000 miles on the car and drove it until I sold it with 203,000 miles. Took it to the track before I sold it with 201,000 miles on it and ran 12's still. Xcharger isn't the most powerful system out there so if you are looking for a dyno queen it won't give you the biggest sheet to show off, but it will give you low end torque for the street (like shifting lanes on the highway) that is missing from the centrifugal blowers like the Vortech (essentially they are a belt driven turbo and need to spool up so create their power up higher in the rpm band)

If you install that supercharger do you have to change any other components in the engine or can it all stay stock for the v6?

Re: Turbocharger

There is no need to change anything, the engine will handle it fine. Mine was all stock top and bottom ends. Lots of other 4.0's out there running forced induction and they aren't built either. Most of the 4.0's at mustangcollective.com are boosted.

One will be a built engine but that is because he had to rebuild anyway after running out of gas during a road course race, engine went lean, and lost a piston as a result. Since he had to rebuild anyway he decided to go big and change to a bigger supercharger as well.

A second guy with a Vortech decided to do a build since he lost a valve when a piece broke off a custom intake he built. Since he has the skills (he has built several racing engines in the past) and someone else had already researched and sourced rods and pistons he decided he might as well build it up (plus he said he needs more power out of it since he expects my new 3.7 with forced induction will be quicker LOL)
