Cats or no cats?

What happens when the cats are taken out? My buddy with a trans am says it makes the car run richer but the gas milage goes way down. But what does it do for a mustang? Is it good to do?

Re: Cats or no cats?

i remove all the cats on my v6 and it sound better( Well, you need at least a cat-back)... But i feel a little difference with the acceleration and a better response to the throttle.
I did`t see any difference on my gaz millage (maybe your friend need new O2 Sensors!).
Bad side to be catless is the smell, you have no restriction at all so if you stand beside your exhaust you will notice it smell carbon monoxide. (i dont know how to spell it) lol.

Also you will notice a difference in your sound.. it will be a little more "growl" but a lot louder (Be carful with neighbord)

Hope this help!

Re: Cats or no cats?

Do not remove the cats on the 4.0! You won't get a nice "growl", you will get a nasty annoying sound. Everyone that I know who did it regretted it. The 4.0 sounds terrible without the cats and there was no performance benefit to offset the sound.

Your V6 makes a different sound than his v6, it doesn't sound too bad on 99-04 but catless on 05-10 v6 sounds terrible.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the factory cats flow pretty dang good for OEM cats

On the 4.0 keep the cats, but that's my opinion you can do whatever suits you!

Cool car. Mine idles pretty sweet to me. When I had mufflers I had a weird sound but either I lost that noise when I took mufflers off or I overlooked it so long I don't hear it anymore!
