I wasn't sure. The thread never said anything about changing the engine or the tranny through his mod list but I commented asking the question

I don't remember exactly how much it is cause I get a decent discount where I work. Honestly I'm surprised AM or any of our sponsors don't offer the thermostat kit lol but I wanna say maybe around 75-100$. If you want a better price on it I could look it up tomorrow and give a better estimate ?

There's a couple seals and a gasket or 2 and you'll prolly need some antifreeze

No kits I was saying I was surprised they haven't made on considering its had to be changed on so many 4.0s. Not just mustangs. The rangers, explorers, anything they offered it in I bet

That link is to my old car. And that is the stock engine and transmission. I never did any work to it other than regular maintenance. Two years on a 75 shot of nitrous with lots of passes at the track. Then 90,000 miles the nitrous came off and the Xcharger went on. The last trip to the track before I sold it I had 201,000 miles on it and still ran mid 12's.

The new owner tells me it is still running strong too, and he is looking for drag wheels and tires for next year now.

I was one of the lucky ones when it comes to some things I guess. My thermostat housing lasted for 199,881 miles. Split at the track just as I was staging. My alternator lasted 189,872 miles before it gave up.

I used mobil 50/50 synthetic blend most of the time. I had an analysis done on the oil every third oil change through Blackstone Labs and they had me stretch the interval between changes up to 7,500. Transmission I used Amsoil when I changed fluid.

I changed the transmission fluid about 36,000 miles. Pain in the butt to do, but I have a friend with a lift so we could get the car up on a lift for the procedure.

Don't the 4.0 v6s have a sealed tranny? I have heard people say you shouldn't have to change the trans fluid if its sealed but I have also heard it should be changed every 60,000 miles

Yes it is a sealed transmission, as are all automatic Mustangs since at least 2005. But if you check your owner manual you will see that a fluid and filter change is recommended. I did it more frequently, but since I had access to a lift and the car was raced on weekends I wanted to make sure the transmission was serviced regularly.

The drain and fill process is a pain. The drain plug is two piece, take the plug out and the fluid will drain. Then take the center section of the plug out and put the main part back in; there is an OTC tool that fits into the center section and you then have to pump UP to get the fluid back in the transmission.

You keep pumping until fluid starts to drain back. Then you have to start the car, get the transmission up to temperature and move through the gears. The really tricky part is then, while the car is running and in gear, pump more fluid up into the transmission until it starts to drain out again. That is the only way to be sure you have added enough fluid. And why it is best if you have access to a 2 post lift.

The nice thing with the 2013 is that there is a dipstick - but you still need a lift to get to it. You can make a dipstick and fill tube for the 2005-10 5R55 transmission, there are several write ups on how to make one.
