05 v6 CAI tune required?

Getting a BBK CAI for free (I work for one of their vendors...woot) for the wife's 05 v6. In my quick research i've found a small handful of folks who have encountered a lean condition when running a CAI on an untuned 05+ v6. Are these people just not yanking their battery cables while they bolt it up, or is this a legitimate concern? There's no way i'm buying a 400 dollar tuner just for the wife's grocery getter.

I'm receiving the part directly from a BBK rep. Its a blem that he used for a display(some paint is scratched off). He said no tune required, but you know how you always find something bad when you research a part..

Right on, well it's likely a safe bet to go with what he's telling you. With an 05+ I'd assume if it got lean beyond the ECU capability to adjust it'll prolly throw a CEL, idk that for sure but it seems like a reasonable assumption but we know what assuming can do lolol

Yeah, apparently some guys are throwing CELs according to my half-hearted scanning of other forums and whatnot. I ASSume they just weren't yanking the cables and letting the engine re-learn the air flow, but... you know. I'd bet the miniscule amount of money I have that someone here has an 05-09 v6 with the exact same kit that can chime in and learn me up.

Maybe a mod can put this in the 05 and up section, might get an answer faster

basically OP some CAIs for the s197 v6's do require a tune. some are tuneless...they are usually listed either way. the lean code usually happens with a tune required unit gets put on without the tune. happens quite a bit actually on many forums i've been on. check AM's CAI & tuner combos if you want to go that route...or since BBK says no tune required there's always that option

From what I understand if your getting a cai ( tune required or not) its always better to get it tuned. Its not worth the 200+$ you would normally spend to not tune it. I think with out tune its like 8-10 hp. But with ive seen anywhere from 15-23.

I have the BBK CAI for my 08 sixxer and you don't have to get a tune for it.

I should have updated earlier. Installed the CAI two days ago and was very careful to let the engine re-learn the A/F strategy and everything works great! I'd say the car gained some horses and the throttle response is definitely improved! Wife's very happy... which means I'm happy lol
