as a rule of thumb, in my opionion when it's time to change plugs it's time to change wires. Why spend money on new plugs if your wires are'nt delivering the juice? As plug wires age they break down causing more amps needed to push the same amount of voltage to your plugs, less fuel milage and loss of power. Basicly the same reason plug gap is so important as gap increases from use the more amps are needed to push the needed voltage across the electrodes this causes lower spark temp which means less fuel burn before exhaust valves open and more unburned fuel goes right out your tail pipes.
