Need advice

Anyone have an 05-09 body style v6 that has owned a 99-04 gt? I currently have a 99 gt and could possibly be looking to get a 05/09 body style 6er but I want opinions of those who have owned both..

Are you planning on keeping the 99 GT? Or are you thinking about trading it in for a 05-09 V6?

I would get rid of the 99, and go for the 05-09 v6.. I almost bought a 2012 last week at the dealer but I don't want to spend too much right now, I'd rarer just get something alittle newer for now and buy the s197 style but I'm wondering if those 6ers are worth it.

If youre looking for the gas mileage of a V6 I'd recommend it I average about 22 mpg and I mostly drive in the city and especially with everybody buying up the new V6's the 05-09's are really affordable now, I hope this helps!

Yes that's helpful. Being a 4.0 I didn't think it was that good on gas.. I've looked at other threads and people avg around 250-260 a tank.. I get around 240 a tank I think.. Not much of a difference.. How is the power on it? Decent I hope

I have a 2002 gt and my brother has an 08 v6 and i like my car much more. Little worse on mpg but my gt has a little more power its not much faster than the v6 and deffinitely doesnt corner as good but i would never trade. I hate not havin the v8 sound. If i was you i would save up and get a newer gt

I love the sound of a v8, but I want something newer right now, and a s197 would be fine for me for the next couple years at least.. The. I'll go all out on whatever new mustang is out.. But I still want some good power.. If those have the same power as the 99-04 gts or close to it I'll be happy

I fill up about once every week an I average 23-24 mpg an I have a gms coil pack ngk plugs an street thunder wires an that boosted my mileage alot an added a little power also but nothing too special but if u do get a 4.0 buy one thats a 07 + an put on some bolt ons you will be right next to the new edge guy's an beat stock ones but it all depends on the driver

How do you average 240 a tank???? We live in the same city and have the same engines and I haven't gotten 200 out of a tank yet lol

Not trying to start an argument but with the same driver in both cars even with bolt ons on the v6 the GT should still win, more power and its lighter. You are right about the driver aspect though.

I drive mostly highway, and I don't really punch it anymore when I drive city.. I don't like to attract too much attention to myself with the cops out here.. I would get a gt but I'm driving alot more than before, and in my area I haven't seen too many gt s197s at a decent price to buy..

I'm not sure ill try to find the link again but i think it was just a hp boost because ford got complaints that they made a v6 4.0 an didn't even break 200hp

I got both 2005 & 2000 v6 mustangs, I average like 20 mpg on the 2005 & 18 or 19 mpg on the 2000. I prefer the 2005 hasn't giving me any major problems in 5 years, and I just paid it off Today.

Yeah see if you avg that much in your v6 I wouldn't want to let go of my 99, I'd rather keep it and have a v8 than have a v6 and avg somewhere near the the same mpg.. Or maybe I'll just get something else instead of a mustang

I was trying to sell the 2000 & get a 2005-2012gt but they're not cheap right now with low millage. But now that I think about it id rather just keep it and get another one without getting rid of mines. Ive test driven the 2006 gt, 2011 gt , a 2011Camaro, & a 2011 mustang v6 . My favorite so far is the 2011 gt. I drive 30-40 every day because of work

So yeah, the s197 is a more refined car but I gotta call into question anyone who says a 4.0v6 s197 runs door to door with a 99-04 gt. Your talking about a 50hp difference, more than that in torque AND 300 lbs difference. The older gt should walk a s197 v6. Hell, the sn-95ne gt is not far off a base geared s197 gt! I'm sorry, but if you have a 99gt and are hoping for similar performance out of a s197 v6, you better be looking at the newer 3.7. My old 96gt would walk a s197 v6 and truth be told, that car was pretty slow.

I'm not worried to much on the power.. But if the s197 v6 avgs the same mpg as my 99 GT, I'd rather keep my gt then to go to a v6 mustang.. Or like I said I'll look into getting another car, even though mustangs are the best looking cars 6s or 8s

It really depends on how much u drive I get anywhere between 22-27 mpg depends if I'm more city or highway an keeping it below 2000 rpm's but if I'm racing everywhere I go then about 19-20

Sure. Mod anything and it can be faster. Not what I was talking about.
