New rear

What would I need if I wanted to change my rear to a 8.8 inch rear?

An 8.8 rearend assembly from a mustang of the same year group is the easiest way.

If you were to get one I believe you need a cobra flange

Try to find a wrecked GT and swap it out.

First it has to be from a Mustang, 2005+ model year. I see all the time where someone buys an 8.8 for a different model and then asks how to mount the 4 link rear end they bought (or the leaf spring type from an Explorer) on the 3 link system the S197 Mustang uses.

If the rear end comes from a 2005-10 model year then you need to swap the pinion flange with the cobra flange so the driveshaft will mate up. If the rear end comes from a 2011+ the pinion flange should already be correct to mount to the 2005-10 V6 driveshaft.
