Cool Tint? Cover? or Smoked Tail Lights?

Hey Everyone, I want to tint out the tail lights but I was debating whether to purchase a TINT? COVER? or buy an actual smoked tail light?
What did you guys do!?
Let me know the best option and why that's the best option!

Smoked taillights are the best looking but most expensive.
Nite shades are cheapest and still look good done properly.
Choose one of those. Covers fly off

Some states the covers or tint is illegal, so i would recommend smoked taillight replacements that are DOT approved.

I would personally do film, which is what I have done on all my stangs. Easy to put on, looks great, and if pulled over then you can remove the film. Vht looks great too but only down fall is if you get stopped and have to have it removed then what do you do besides have to spend money on new ones. Smoked ones look the best and are the most expensive. Really depends on what you're budget is and how you would like to go about it. Here's my tails with film

The film looks nice. Where do you buy the film from and how dark is it?

Also, if I want to buy the smoked tail lights, instead of putting on the film, what brand and what style would you recommend?

Thanks

My previous 2 mustangs I bought the precut film on eBay for less than 20 bucks. This time I used 3m roll and I precut it myself. It's not that dark you can still see the lights when you break. I would recommend Americanmuscle.com they offer good set of raxiom smoked ones

If I had the money to spend which is over 150 bucks on smoked tails that's what I would do. You can get sometimes creases and won't be as neat If you don't do it right. It's mainly quality that's the difference the shades of it might be the same.

I still have stock taillights but most dark taillights are DOT approved. The reason you can get a ticket is because the film or the tint covers the reflective area of your taillights and is a safety issue. Raxiom are DOT approved.

They look nice. Have you had any problems with it? I was actually looking in to 2010 style taillights or regular stock smocked tail lights

Not a problem at all! It's just the housing and reuses factory lightbulbs. Just put the lightbulbs in the same pattern you took them out and voilá

As someone said in another post, check your state laws! I'm in Florida and a cop with nothing better to do pulled me over for taillight covers in the middle of the day while doing the speed limit. I got a ticket for taillight covers and another for headlights! At 160 bucks per ticket I think I like my stock red and clear 😁

Ahh icic. it's not a fix-it ticket if you do get caught? I guess in that case getting a smoked taillights would be the best huh?

Not a fix it ticket, I even removed them when he pulled me over (takes all of 30 seconds to remove) and he still wrote tickets for front and back for a grand total of 320 bucks! Check your state laws to see what is legal and what's not. I see covers on cars everywhere and never seen anyone ticketed before, maybe cop's wife left him that morning or whatever to put him in a bad mood. I love the look but nervous to put them back on.
Good luck to you, and remember: drive it like you stole it!
