Strange manual transmission sound Help!!

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I was driving home from going out to eat when I was getting a strange sound out of my transmission that got louder as the rpms went up until 5th gear on the interstate where she was quiet again. I do have a Hurst/Ford racing short throw shifter installed thy dies let in more tranny noise, but it had been in for months and hasn't given me an issue. I have always had a bizarre sound around 2,000 rpm, though from what I have heard everyone seems to have that to a point. The sound is hard to explain but isn't normal and bothers me. The worse it gets is on the interstate when you drop from 5th to 4th to pass someone quickly the sound is loud and bad and the is gone when she slide back into 5th. So far nothing as far as the car performing had changed, but she is my baby and any sound that's not quite right bothers me. I really appreciate any help.

Thank you all,

Aventador97

Check your exhaust and heat shields. Might be loose or touching body

No it's not a whine, it's a knocking sound

I'll check, I don't think that is what is wrong.

Hello everyone,

Let me explain the weird noise i have on my 2006 v6 mustang. When I speed up, specially on 3rd and 4th gear, (when maintaining 2,500 rpm), I hear a noise that is freaking me out. Took my car to the mechanics. Had my transmition replaced because ir was broken, had parts of my gear box replaced too because some parts were damaged, however, nothing seems to be solved. Some mechanics think it is the gear box some dont even know what it could be. As u can see this situation is driving me crazy.

You said it was a 5speed right, check your throwout bearing.
You can feel a throwout bearing going, rest your foot on the clutch and you will feel it if it knocks or squeals
