Stereo install problems

So I just installed a double din Kenwood head unit into my 06 . I tested it after install and it seemed to work great. Once I got to driving and really turned it up it distorted horribly. I used a wiring harness from eBay and as far as I know all the wiring is right. Do you guys think its a mess up on my part or bad speakers , there are tweeters installed and I assume aftermarket component speakers ,along with 10 inch subs in the doors. This was all like this when I bought it . also I don't think the radio is as loud as the stock one was. Which didn't seem right to me. Any suggestions before I take everything back apart would be great

U may need an amp with those subs. What are the specs on all the speakers and radio?

Stereo install problems

The doors are 8" not 10"? You need an amp to power the subs or it will sound bad same with speakers all the power is lost. Did you buy a wire harness to the battery with a fuse pack? Stock shaker 500 isn't that strong. I've had that problem needed to power 8"s with amp. Have a separate bass knob so the subs are separate from the speaker bass controls. If you have the volume control on the steering wheel you need a special kit to work with after market dash.

Actually they are 10s? Like I said someone had them installed. And no I did not , I assume the previous owner was running the sub's off of a separate amp

Okay I see how they used a 10" if the panel is cut behind it, it's allowing to much air the subs need a closed environment my sound shop was explaining to me. Plus the power to support them

The way subs work, u can have both vented or enclosed. Closed makes a crisp thud which most people like. Vented wont be as crisp, but it can be louder.
I can pretty much guarantee that you will need an amp unless the radio can put out enough wattage. Usually they put out between 100-200w though.

So what is the lowest watt amp I can get to give these some depth. Because I've got two 12 inch rocford fosgates on the way so I just want these to have some sound

Depends on the power requirements of the subs. If i were to guess, id say 500w if your regular speakers are 25w then u could run those right off the head, i gotta know what the output on the stereo and what the power requirements are on the speakers are before i can give you a good answer. U need to know what the wattage measurements are too - weather they are measured in peak wattage or RMS wattage. You want to match them up as best you can. Your amp should produce a little more power than your speakers so you arent running the amp at maximum efficiency all the time.

Okay so I believe the stereo is just 50 watt x 4 or however you say it. The common output for stereos. And below are the component speakers and the sub's for the front doors that I will have installed shortly. Like I said earlier. I just want the subs to have a good sound quality to them and I want to be able to crank the volume up without distortion

Okay our speakers all 4 are 6x8. The subs you'll need an amp with separate bass knob so the subs are independent from the speakers bass levels.

I'm not saying they are bad, they are a good brand and for 59.99 who couldn't pass that up. A good amp is planet audio I got a 3000watt for 175. Powers my big boy in the trunk.

The kicker have tweeters built in you don't need to buy extras.

The speakers won't need an amp, but the subs will. Or it will continue to be distorted. Also remember have the sub base level separate from the speakers. Or when you turn bass up for doors it will control the speakers and make blow them easier. Also be easy on the speakers and sub for two week break in period. After that your good to crank her up.

Well I've got my speakers in the doors replaced with pioneers and I have kickers in the back deck. Not the exact setup I wanted but had to go with what the store had. They sound great. Just waiting for them to get broke in. Oh and I found out all of the speakers minus one in the back and the subwoofers in the doors were blown. So my vocals were just coming through the tweeters added in the in the front lol
