Coil packs

So I've heard that cool packs work good when you also do plug wires and plugs with, but I've also heard they do nothing really. Anybody have them and can tell me the actual difference? Or what product brands they'd suggest? I see coil packs on AM claiming an 18hp gain which has to be a bunch of crap. What do Yall think?

I dont know about the v6 coil packs, but the coil on plugs for the v8's, word is that motorcraft outperforms them all. a guy on the forum actually used some kind of load testing equipment to test em all, and the motorcraft are more durable, and better voltage made its way to the plug.
Just gotta figure in the fact that sometimes, any new coil might out perform an old coil. but oem tends to be the way to go. definitly no hp gains from a new coil except for reaching your original hp from when it was new.
another thing that goes for the v8 coils that im not sure about on the v6 is that most coils diagnosed as bad only needed a new boot, or a wire in your case.
Personally, i would spend more on quality wires, and make sure its quality and not just a name. again, id put my money on oem. Spark plugs, oem as well. The only time you really need to change plugs is if your boosting, or under heavy mods.
Hope this helps.

The stock 4.0 coil pack is very good and more than adequate for anything you do to the car. In fact many have found it outperforms the "upgraded" coil pack.

I've always heard that about OEM coils....I probably noticed improvement simply because mine had 70k miles on it

I usually reccomend starting cheap and working your way up. plugs, then wires, then coil pack. but if you can fund it, then nothin wrong with just replacing it all at once. but coils tend to last a pretty good amount of time.

Absolutely no way lol. With a coil pack you will mostly notice a quicker start up and smooth idle. That is it
