When racing in my 2010 v6 automatic is it better to start in D or 1 and shift

Drive. I watched my little brother drop his transmission in his 87 firebird. The way I understand it you should never really "shift" an automatic while driving, only when you're stopped. I may be way off here but that's what I was always told.

What about on the 2014. Should you use drive or sport mode? And if you use sport mode do you use select shift or just let it be automatic?

If you want to do the quickest time possible, let the computer handle it.

I only take it out of drive if I'm going downhill for a while, or if I want to play in the snow.

It was never specified, but I'm guessing you mean drag race?

For drag racing just leave it in drive, if you are doing a road course then you can shift through the gears.

Every time I race I use my gears 1-3 then push it in drive and it's way quicker than just racing in drive. My car has a 91 bama race tune so it really helps with the shift points too.

I guarantee you are actually slower that way. It might feel faster. But compare times and it'll be slower

Yeah no doubt...shifting with the shifter itself is incredibly slow. Half the time you'll have already up shifted and it takes another second for the computer to realize

I have compared it and shifting is faster. I have a tune and I know it is faster I can definitely feel it but I guess that's just my car then

I was talking about using sport mode with select switch. U can shift it manually. It's like having paddle shifters for those of you who never drove in the gt autos. Nice feature but for the most part never used

If you wanna shift gears when you race then by a manual... Automatic shifters were built to shift by themselves
