New tires?

So when I bought my car i had 235/55/17 tires and the treads were literally gone. I wanted to go a little wider so I got 255/55/17. Now the ride feels smoother but it feels like my engine is struggling to push my car. It doesnt feel as quick, also my tires look massive. Is this a normal size tire to have? Heres a pic. Also im thinking about getting spacers. Should I put them in both front and back or can I put them in just the back?

First, there is more contact patch. Around 20mm, so more friction on the road. And second, since the middle number is a % of the width, the tire is also taller. A taller tire equates to a numerically lower gear ratio, so it may feel a little less "quick", your gears will be a tad taller though...... oh and your speedometer is off a few mph.

Is 55 too tall for normal Mustangs? I mean i like the width of the tires I think the 255 goes well with it, its just the height thats bothering me right now.
