3.73 Gear

All,

So I have trying to research why everyone says to choose a 4.10 for the auto transmission. I was looking into upgrading the gear in my Mustang and I wanted some honest opinions. I tend to do a lot of highway driving, not all the time, but when I do it's usually long distance. At one of my Mustang club meetings, I asked around about there opinion. From what I understood is that the 4.10 really sucks gas. So is the 3.73 a medium between the stock and 4.10? All the other topics on here say that the 3.73 is only good for the manual. Would the 3.73 be worth investing in or just get the 4.10 and pay the extra in gas loss?

Thanks!

Not much off a loss in mpgs, your heavier right foot due to the performance increase you'll get is what'll cost ya. 4.10's are great with the auto, if your going to spend the money I wouldn't waste the money on 3.73's. My 2 cents.

The 4.10's do suck on gas. But they're not much worse than the 3.73's and you get much faster acceleration through 4.10's. The performance of them outweighs the loss of MPG. Especially in our 4.0's the 4.10's will be good. Get a set of good tired and LCA's and bam

How much did you pay for install? And can't remember if you have 8.8 rear end or not...

I paid $390 for a faulty install because my gears whine insanely and my mechanic said he didn't have the tools for a proper install to begin with. I got my money back though

And yeah I've still got the 7.5", never gona be more than bolt ons and never gona run slicks
