Gutted cats

Anyone know if it's a good idea to gut my cats or how long it would take and how to do it, or if it's even worth it? I have a pypes true dual system and I want it to be a bit louder. Will I gain anything from this?

Why not just cut them?

I recommend replacing your catted mid pipe with an off road, non-catted mid pipe.
I gutted the cat on my truck and there was a noticeable loss of low end torque because the exhaust was "tumbling" once it entered the huge empty chamber of the cat. This slows down the velocity of the exhaust.
It did make it a lot louder though!

If you want to gut the cats, they need to be removed from the exhaust system, then you just take a piece of pipe and start beating on the ceramic honeycomb material until it is broken into small enough pieces to fall out of the openings.

Cut them off. Gutting them is a hassle; speaking from personal experience.

Pick your poison.

The 4.0 does not have a good exhaust note without cats, and there is no performance benefit that offsets the tone. Everyone I know who did it regretted it.

I don't like the way the 4.0 sounds without cats either. I would keep them on.
But definitely don't gut them. Take them off or leave them on.

Gutted cats

Why would you want the 4.0 loud in the first place? It's not a performance car.
It's for someone who "wanted to say they had a mustang" that's it. Stick with a catback and visual mods
The 3.7 is a different story it can hold its own.

Bad idea and no gains but if you want to do it I would look for a used set of cats for sale and gut those so if you ever sell or want to go back you can.

Why would you want anything loud??....you can't tell if something is powerful by the sound usually, given there are circumstances that would vary from that

1. Yea why would you want it loud. They sound horrible.
2. Your right you can't tell bc 85% of the cars that are really loud are just that loud. Can't get out of its own shadow. All noise.
3. Goes back to why would you want that?

I'm sure every 4.0 owner on here bought their car because they "wanted to say they own a mustang".... Yup. if that was the case then I'm sure members wouldn't be asking questions about mods or anything else. As for OP, don't gut the cats and don't remove them. I can agree with that part. 4.0's can sound good if done right however. Generally speaking, loud doesn't necessarily mean good
