Rear end swap

I see a lot of people talking about switching the rear end to the 8.8. how much for the rear end, what years can it come from and how hard is it to do yourself vs how much for mechanic ?

Not to hard with the right tools and a second set of hands never hurts.

You can swap a GT rear end from 2005-10. Almost a direct bolt in. Everything matches up except for the driveshaft flange. You will need to swap to the cobra flange (about $25) so your V6 driveshaft will bolt up.

Any Mustang from model year 2011 to 2014 will be the 8.8" rear end - doesn't matter if it is a V8 or V6. Some of those will already have the correct flange and are a direct bolt in. Have to check the flange on the unit you buy to see. I haven't found anything that explains why some have the flange you need and others you still need to swap; nothing to explain why Ford used different set ups.

As far as price, all over the place on that. I've seen them from $350 to $1,150. Check ebay, www.car-part.com, forums, craigslist even.
