Car show tips

I think it's nice. Some shows judge your engine bay. So you might just ask to see if this show does it. Otherwise keep her clean. Cleanliness is big in shows.

That was another question i was going to ask is it better to leave the hood up or down. Here's a pic of under my hood, I'm thinking about changing the spark plug wires to blue so they match the inside of my car or should I leave them?Click image for larger version

What really makes a difference is cleanliness. It could be a 100% stock 1994 V6 mustang, but if the paint is immaculate with no swirl marks at all then i will respect it and give it some good looks.

You need a bottle of aerospace 303 if you plan to pop that hood. All plastic and rubber should look clean and fresh.

If you are being judged, hood up, trunk open and empty (subs excluded but wiring should be neat), windows down.

Fire extinguisher should be present. (Usually put that under in front of one of the tires so it's seen but can not be tripped on, think of it like a red wheel chock)

Judges care about being clean over anything so look at something you normally wouldn't like cleaning the inside of the doors like not just the rockers but in there around the door hinges by the fenders, or the inside of your crank pulley, or around the trunk hinges and weather stripping and channels. (Clean all the glass too)

No gadgets plugged in either in the cabin or suction cup stuff on the windows with guages being the exception.

If not judged and just for show do what you like it's a peer thing.

That engine bay needs to be cleaned like crazy, alternator might want to be changed out with a polished one or at least one with the case powdercoated.

I never enter any of my cars in shows for reasons like this mainly. The cleanliness standard is absolutely ridiculous where for serious shows you basically can't drive the car...

OP, a lot of judged shows don't actually have judges walking around. Many judged shows are the people in the show judging other people's cars. Most do not have any criteria or guidelines for judging. It becomes what ever someone in the show likes . All subjective not objective.

I have lost to cars that had nasty engine bays, wheels that have caked on brake dust and paint that looks like it had not be washed in a year. All because they have V8's and superchargers in them.

I now only go to judged shows where there is actually judging guidelines. None of this, oh that's cool car so I'll vote for that. Nope.
