2010 4.0 Fuel relay/Pump issue

I purchased a 5 speed 4.0 with 36,000 miles on it on 9/16/16 the car drove flawless all weekend until the evening of 9/18/16. On the way home the car lost all power, I had established that the fuel pump had shut off because I blew a relay.
This took a few days of research, also after buying another relay. After replacing the new relay, the car within 20 miles then shut down again. I work for the rail road and need this thing road worthy ASAP. Every time I buy a new relay it is costing me 30.00 bucks. my question would be. Could something be grounding off of the fuel pump thus shorting the relay as I'm driving down the road?, and is this possible? Another thing I noticed was after the last time I opened the hood it seemed hot to me under the hood, however the car was not overheating, and and had more than a good amount of coolant in it. Just trying to not rush out to drop 300.00 on a new fuel pump if it is not needed. Any help would be awesome thanks guys

For a quick reply, I would examine the relay. Are the contacts full of crud so that there is no current flow? Or is the coil burned up/over heated and is open, no longer closing the contacts? Pry the bad one (ones?) open and see if you can tell what caused the relay to go bad.

Since you just bought the car, is the wrong fuse installed, maybe one with a higher amperage? If so, that could point to a bad pump or some sort of abnormal load on that circuit. Someone may have "fixed" the problem with a bigger fuse, causing something else to fail.

Other minor items, X3/XF3 Tuner w/custom tune, GT Dual Exhaust Take-offs, FR 8.8” 3.73 limited slip, JLT Oil Separator, rear sway bar, strut tower brace.
Innovate WiFi, OT-2 ODBII interface, and DashCommand software to go with it.
