2011 V6 governor

Does anyone know a relatively simple way to remove the governor on the new V6? It kicks in at like 113 mph which isn't much fun on the track. With 305 hp it should be able to go much faster.

The first thing I can think of is just a tune. I wouldn't think that it would be anything other than a program from ford. Look for the tuners from sct and Bama tunes from americanmuscle.com

Re: 2011 V6 governor

completely stock it's drag limited to 160 and that isn't the extent of the gears. I drove to AmericanMuscle twice. They're awesome. Definitely a tuner for the things you want to do. Bama is whole you'll want to deal with unless you plan on F/I because you'll need a dyno for that tune.

Someone please explain what the governor is, I'm guessing it is software rather than a part since it can be ignored with a tune?

Re: 2011 V6 governor

a governor now a days on most cars is just a program that runs on ur ecu and limits the top speed of your car. The used to be mechanical, but obviously with time comes advancements.

Great good information. So with that said are there mechanical or part reasons why ford would use a governor to limit your speed with a V6. Is this something that Ford is telling us with our V6? Great car but the parts and the mechanics of the car can't handle more than 113mph. Just would like to know the reasoning other than safety why a company would do this.

Re: 2011 V6 governor

Thats one of the reasons cuz some parts may have not been designed to endure such speeds for a long period of time. Also, most cars even Porsches and Corvettes have governors, for most higher end sports cars there limiters are about 155mph. Another reason is just that there are no normal roads in the united states where you are legally allowed to drive at those speeds.

Another thing is for safety purposes as far as you tires go, most factory tires that come on a car, and cheaper after market tires are not meant to maintain speeds in excess of 120 mph for extended periods of time.

Is there a way to find out what the top speed is for your tires?

Heres an article that explains it, it would take me forever to go through all of the specifics so here u go.

Tire Tech Information - How to Read Speed Rating, Load Index & Service Descriptions

For example tho my tires r y rated so they r way overkill, but they were on the car when i got them so freeebie!
