Delete as in pull them? I got straight pipes and it is great. Sounds amazing and looks cool when up on the lift. Not sure about performance, maybe since the back pressure is off a slight loss but nothing noticable

Re: Deleted Mufflers??

I'd say for a v6 leave the mufflers. Get some chambered mufflers and you'll be happy the sound. Since you have the 05+ you could get axlebacks and save some coin on a full exhaust system.

Re: Deleted Mufflers??

So I've been trying to think if I should straight pipe my mustang. I've been reading about some people saying you can lose power or torque.....So I took the chance and had the local muffler shop straight pipe my mustang. Let me tell you that it sounds awesome!!! I don't feel any power loss or torque loss. The only thing I can say to those people that say you lose power or torque is that the car is louder and when its at 2k you think its at a higher rpms so you shift earlier..if that makes sense to you guys.. thanks again to all you guys.

Exactly. I short shift all thevtime to keep noise down so I don't attract unwanted police attention. But I feel nonpower loss either. Good for you going straight pipes. Join the club

Pretty sure its a federal law making it illegal in all states, some just don't do emissions test such as AL. But if you get pulled and they happen to check for cats they can, not saying they will, give you a ticket.

I didn't take the cats just the mufflers off.(axle back)The only reason you can do it like that is because the resonator acts like a muffler.

Correct on the new cars the resonator is exactly like a muffler. As long as you have the resonators and the cats your good to go, that's why you can by the muffler delete or the GT. never looked at the V6 exhaust but if it has the same setup then no mufflers is ok.

Re: Deleted Mufflers??

I don't understand why so many guys want to take the cats off thier cars if they want to do that why not just buy a race only car in the first place I understand the sounding good thing but why go to such extreams om a street car , I know I will get flack for this, but I am just trying to understand why.

I would think more flow more power, less restriction. I agree though buy high flow cats and remain legal, less of a headache.

+1
thank you!
I ask the guy at the muffler shop if he could give a quote on a recommend full exhaust system and he told me that you don't need it. The new mustangs come with a x pipe and taking of the mufflers is really smart...

Or move to OK where they don't test or check emissions ever and the cops don't give a **** about your exhaust as long as it doesn't bother them

I agree with everything you say, my brother also did this.the only problem with straight piping a v6 is once you get past 3500 Rpms it sounds like a loud ricey fart. It really only works well on high performance v8's (gt 500, corvette, g8gt etc....)

Re: Deleted Mufflers??

I have BBK headers and a BBK catless x pipe with them. Today I installed a Magnaflow competition series which has resonators in place of the mufflers and added some parameters to my tune for them. I have a decent power gain up top and it sounds AMAZING. I'm not even kidding, it sounds like my friends 5.0 with a catless x and magnaflow street series. Just a bit louder. It really does sound like a V8 now. I'd recommend it.
