Question about LT Headers...

Are they inherently street illegal, or is the legality based on the presence of catalytic converters? If someone could explain what makes pipes offroad, it would be much appreciated.

I know some states don't test emissions, but here in Georgia they do, and I didn't know if it was just a question of cats or no cats that made the difference.

Yea if you dont have cats its illegal and u will fail emmisions. O/r midpipe means there are no cats. And you will fail emmisions. I have o/r xpipe here in texas. I have trouble everytime to get inspected.

Got ya. So if you have a catted midpipe that will fit long tube headers, you're good to go?

It's crazy...I used to live in Mississippi where they inspected your car but couldn't care less about emissions, and now in Georgia, they check emissions but couldn't care less if your brakes work...

Re: Question about LT Headers...

Yah buying a catted midpipe will keep you emissions legal. Some guys have kept their stock catted h-pipe, had flanges put on so they can simply bolt it in place of their off road pipe on inspection day.

Re: Question about LT Headers...

I have the BBK LT's. I might just have an O/R X on mine ... nah

anyway, you are legal in most states as long as you have the catted x pipe that they make for it. I believe NY where I currently am has made long tubes illegal, but everyone runs them. You wont fail emissions with them though. I know that. This is why I'm getting the hell out of here in a month and moving to Louisiana.
