Alright guys, I know I probably research things to a fault, but for those of you who have them or have driven them, what's your suggestion for gears?
I have a V6 Automatic with the stock 2.73 gears, but what I want is more acceleration from a dead stop. I do a moderate amount of highway driving when going to visit family and such; so, I don't want to absolutely destroy gas mileage, but at the same time, I drive in the city every day -- I don't go on long trips every day.
I've driven the GT manual with 3.55 gears and the GT manual with stock (3.31 gears?), and it was stupid fun, but I never drove the automatic GT or any V6 automatics with anything other than stock gears. So, any helpful comparison would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a manual GT with 4.10s and it's so fun! I do a lot of highway driving and at 65mph I'm right at 2k-2.1k. Still get like 20-21mpgHWy and actually get like 18mpgcity.. haha. Idk if I just did my math wrong but I averaged it out twice. >.>; But honestly I think you'll be happier with 3.73s because it's a little more mild, especially in the autos.
But yeah.. My jump from 3.27s to 4.10s was an epic difference. My old truck got 8mpgHWY anyway, so gas seems limitless for me right now.
Thanks, guys. Really, I just feel like it's necessary to improve on the 2.73s with the auto transmission. It still feels weird at times driving an automatic, and my biggest gripe is how I don't get to choose how aggressively or mildly I want to drive depending on my mood and the conditions
Spector,
I know that they come stock 2.73, and I actually just looked at the differential this past Sunday to verify.
I figured a jump from 2.73 to 3.73 would be so great that 4.10 might be overkill...except that I still see some people extolling the virtues of the 4.10. I just don't know if they have six speed transmissions and whether or not they're auto or manual.
3.31 gears are standard when you order the performance package on the v6. I love it. No problems with acceleration and gas mileage isn't affected that much.
