Re: To drive or not to drive

I bought my car to drive it, and I do every day even in the snow and rain. 191,200 miles on it right now, owned it since April 2006. Just today I was at the Ford dealer looking at an Edge for my wife and the salesman said "you have it out today?" (there was a light snow going on) and I said "of course, it is a driver"

Re: To drive or not to drive

I can't believe I hadn't seen this thread before now!

I was just thinking about this today as I have a 1990 Honda Accord with 175,000 miles on it and my Stang. Before May 2011, the Honda was my one and only car. Now it basically sits, and I only use it every now and again when I just feel the need to drive a stick...or have to drive to a shady part of town.

Part of me hates racking up miles on it, but I came to the same conclusion: it's a car. Your car is not an investment. I'm sorry, but it's not. It is a utility and entertainment. If you're not using it, you've wasted your money, IMO.

Now, I would LOVE to be at the point where I have a V6 DD and a Shelby weekend car. I wouldn't want to drive the Shelby every day because I'd probably kill myself or someone else, and I'd want my DD to be an automatic while my weekend car was a stick.

Really, the only thing I want is to have a geared, inefficient as hell, whiplash, manual tranny Stang and a sensible, fuel-sipping, automatic, ATL traffic friendly Stang

I have a '12 V6 as a DD up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and it does great! I did have to buy $1200 (can) winter tires for the thing but so far she has done very well - even in -25C temperatures. The only thing I am obsessive about is keeping the outside clean so any salt/sand won't play havoc with the paint and parking in my heated garage is a must.
2 months after buying the Mustang I went on a 2 week roadie all the way down to San Diego and back up the California coast in September 2011. It was great! So many roads to tear up!
All in all, I love my Mustang and she will have at least 40,000 kilometers on her before I've owned her for a full year!
