Got pulled over today...

I was an idiot and accidentally cut off a cop. There's a weird merge here off of the belt loop, and it was stop and go traffic; so, there was no high speed chance of serious injury, but I legitimately cut him off.

At first, I thought he was going to let me go, but after I'm sure he finished cursing my name, he threw his lights and siren on. Not good.

So, I pulled over, and he was pretty upset. He chewed me out for a minute and then asked for my license. He said that I cut him off because my tint was too dark. He went back to his car to get the device, and I was not feeling good.

He came back, measured my tint, and said it measured at 14%.

I was afraid he'd slash it, but fortunately, he said this wasn't his jurisdiction, and he liked my car. He said that his windows were tinted too, but the legal limit in GA is 35%, and I could be cited.

He told me just to be careful and take care of my car WHEW!

I know! I never get out of tickets. Ever. This was an early Christmas present!

It's actually 20%, but I guess because it was overcast today, it registered even lower.

I've noticed that cops machines register low and most inspection stations around here measure high. Last tint ticket I got was a certain amount per % under legal.

Your windows have about a 5% factory tint, that's why it was lower then ur 20%. But how do they measure the tint?

In my area they got like a little hand held device goes around the lip of the window. I guess it measures the light passing thru the window

Just for future reference... The factory tint applied is removed when tinted by a shop...

Re: Got pulled over today...

Yeah, it was the first time I had ever seen the device, but it essentially looks like a fat credit card reader that slides over the lip of the window.

All I know is that when I picked the car up after it was tinted, it looked like 5%, and I grinned from ear to ear

Just glad it didn't cost me today!

Now that's funny! I think the 5% tinting he was refering to is actually in the glass itself...so no, they don't remove it.

Yea factory windows hav tint in the glass it self...usually allowing about 95% of light through
