Tuner opinions/info needed.

Does anyone have experience with using a tuner on their mustang. In specific a Bama SCT SF3/X3 Power Flash Tuner (from the AM site)? My 2010 V6 is basically stock. Is this worth the performance enhancements that it can provide? Any safety risk with this?

Being someone who has never done this sort of thing before any information or opinions are appreciated.

Although I have never gotten one myself (but it's going to be my next buy from AM) I have researched it.

From what I can see from reviews and the actual dyno.. You gain about 15-20 RWHP ( with CAI and tune also sometimes more) you will also feel a more fluid shift thru the gears as it changes shift timing, and get better fuel economy although I'm sure it's not something to compare to a Prius

The only cons I can see is.. If your still under warranty and bring it to them with a CAI and a tune, they may void your warranty. But to negate that the tuner can hold 3 custom tunes and the stock settings so you can switch back in like 3 min. And obviously take the CAI out and swap the old one back in for the dealer visit

Check out American muscle..they have vids and product reviews. Should be 100% safe.

Hope this helped

Also this is considered the best "first" thing to do to your pony

Re: Tuner opinions/info needed.

The warranty issue isnt a big deal since my warranty runs out in three months anyway. I just want to make sure Im not doing anything that could harm the engine and cost me thousands of dollars to fix.

Thanks for the response!

You can datalog your tune after installing it. I did that to fix a pinging issue I was having. Basically, it uses your Stang's own computer diagnostics to evaluate the effects of the tune.

I think it's a great upgrade that's the best bang for the buck of there. Give Bama a call.

Re: Tuner opinions/info needed.

As for the tuner itself. SCT is the way to go. Diablo has more complaints and problems then SCT and Hypertech combined.

As for the tunes, more people get the Bama tunes and mostly have great replies. Others say mail order tunes can cause problems and that getting a Dyno tune is the way to go..

I'm going to get a Dyno Tune from a local shop here in SoCal within the next 2-3 months

Sct Bama tuner is great. I can't speak for any other tuner brands but the Bama from American Musscle was super easy to use and made a difference in performance of my 11 v6 stang. Well worth the 379.00. I have my bama tune for four months now and like it. I use the 91 performance tune.

I don't have any numbers from a before and after dyno, and I also got 3.73 gears around the same time, but it feels like a totally different vehicle.

Throttle response is probably the most noticeable improvement, but you'll feel the difference.

Well, I don't race and have never dyno my car so from a numbers stand point I have no clue. From a how does the car feel after the tune. Freakin love it. The car feels to pull way harder. The throttle response is great. No more delay when juicing it. The gears don't skip when pulling out slowly. No more jerking from gears skipping, those who have automatics. The car feels to accelerate much better than when there was no tune. Definitely, a must have.

Has there been issues with the sct bama tuner? Im aware of the #8 cylinder issue in the past but from my understanding that has been long corrected by American Musscle and no longer happens. Any new issues that would not make it safe?

It's just best practice to datalog every new tune. Each car is a little different, and you also have human error. Before going balls out, get some numbers and send back to BAMA.

Regarding issues, I had some pinging early on, but after a couple of revisions, that was resolved.

I got ya. Thanks. So far I have had no issues with my tune. I have had it for the past 4 months.
