I just don't know...I really think it depends on the color of your car. Black? Yeah, I like them. Red? Eh, I dunno.

I've never installed before, but that was my understanding - essentially you just have a bottle of lightly soapy water that you spray down before applying and squegee out.

Don't take that as Gospel though

A friend of mine installed them, your correct with the spray bottle and push out the bubbles. He spent about 45 minutes and we could still see some areas that we couldn't work out. They look good unless you get within about 3 foot from them. IMO good for regular driving and appearance but not show quality.

I just don't like the idea of tinting the headlights. Yeah, it looks good on a dark car, but I use those headlights when it's dark outside...

I have all my lights done in regular tint and the tails eventually got air bubbles no matter what I did. If you zoom in on the passenger side rear you might be able to see it.

Like I said, it looks great on a black car.

Re: Smoked tail lights

The tint is too much of a hassle. Do the VHT Nightshades (how-to's all over youtube) and clear coat them. Easy to do and cost 20$-28$ (Amazon.com) if you already have a microfiber cloth and Dawn dishsoap..hehehe

Brakes applied

In Texas the painted or VHT won't pass safety inspection. Tint you can take off. I would buy a spare set but they are really expensive for just to use during inspection.

If your serious about getting them done spend the money and get them painted. I had the shop where I've gotten all my exterior work done paint them and they look awesome. In Texas you can have them dark as long as you can see the reflectors now.

Putting the tint on the taillights is easy...I saw all of these people sayings its hard and they must be retarded. Use plenty of soapy water and push the bubbles to the side. I did it to my car about a month ago and I love it, oh and I have no bubbles. I'd say go for the tint over the covers.

Did mine myself with the vht paint because I didn't like how dark my overlay from AM was. I love how it looks now its realy barely tinted at all but just enough to make a big difference.

I had the vinyl overlays on my old headlights and only once did it come off almost during a downpour.

I used VHT Niteshade on my tails.

Do you have a "70s/80s" filter on your camera(phone), or is that just a bad scan of a printed photo?

Can anyone tell me whether or not you need to use sand paper when you use VHT or can you just spray them and then clear coat? I have the VHT but am wary, just don't want to mess up my lights. But I do want them black with no bubbles.

It's recommended to do a very fine standing and then wet sand. On my 04 I didn't sand and it came out to a matte looking finish

The 2000 grit sand paper (wet), scuffs the surface a little for better coats. It will eliminate orange peel effect. Wet-sanding is the only way to go for a good job. Otherwise, buy you a set of used taillights and spray those. A job done right is a job well done!

There's HUNDREDS of videos on Youtube that will show you STEP BY STEP how to do them. Its dumb proof, turn video on, follow step, pause, press play for next step...too easy!

That's what I'm trying to do. I just have to find a place that would do them that dark, so far no luck but again they did a very nice job on yours, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Yeah I went to like five different shops before another guy in a Mustang told me about a place because I flagged him down on the highway. A lot of places said they don't do it or won't do it. Good luck. If you are near MD, I could give you the address of the one I went to.

Install done; first couple of pics are with running lights on, hard to tell because it is bright outside. Then hazards on which simulate if you were to press on the brakes..didn't have another set of feet to press the brakes. Also quarter panel lights were done. I will take night shots this evening. Sorry that she is dirty also, will look a lot better once I clean her up.
