I'll agree that your probably screwed against laser on you but sometimes you can catch some laser scattering and that can save you. Not to mention they do make a difference with regular radar. I pick up radar miles away.

OP, you get what you pay for. Basic protection starts around 150 and a good standalone system can run 600+ a complete system with jammers, detectors, and laser shield can run into the thousands... Cobra makes a good unit. Others will have recommendations for sure.

I've read some good stuff on laser jammers, but it sounds like you could be in trouble if you throw a jam code. As far as radar detectors are concerned, do they just seek for the frequencies used by the actual guns or...? Wondering if radar detector is all I need for mere police proximity?

Honestly, I don't really speed that often or excessively either...just seem to have bad luck (see other post). Tired of paying tickets...I'd rather give it to a company creating something than the parasitic government.

99.99% of the time you are F***ed if your laser detector is going off!.. Lol. In order for it to work it has to be hit directly by the laser!.. And the way the laser gun works is that cops have to shoot your car as if it were a real gun!.. So really the only thing a laser detector is doing is just guarantying that you just got hit with a laser!..

Radar detectors basically listen for certain types of radio frequencies!... (that's the simplest way of putting it). As far as getting any "jammers", my advice is don't bother!.. 1. The companies that make them, also make the radars, radar detectors, and all the "anti-jammers" for the cops!.. Basically these companies are like illegal arms dealers, they sell to both sides!.. Lol. 2. They are illegal in most areas!.. If your caught with one your fines can double, triple, or sometimes worse!..
