Damn hail storm!

Mother nature beat the hell out of my stang last night. I stopped counting at 75 dents and a cracked windshield!

Re: Damn hail storm!

do u think a car cover coulda helped a bit? I got one for if I'm out of town and can't park in a garage but I don't know how much good it would do in a hail storm.

What now...will insurance cover this?

Hail storm gave it swirls too?!?!?

Seriously though, that sucks...I don't want to think about something like that happening to mine.

Speaking of those paint swirls, how do you avoid those or get rid of them?? Can a good waxing help?

You know, I've never had them...I have a light colored car so even if they're there, I can't see them. I would guess maybe some compound and then a good waxing?

Yep I read the thread 99ford directed me to looks like a wax will do the trick. I had planned on waxing soon anyway I was just wondering if that would do the trick. My swirls aren't severe but I do see some when it's in the sun

I think some are just inherent.

I would be interested to see the difference between a new car right off the rail and a car sitting on the dealer's lot for a few months. My suspicion is that a lot of those swirls come from dealers using cheap labor to wax their cars and going crazy with the buffing.

Well I got the estimate yesterday. $4000 to fix her up again. Only the hood has be repainted. On a good not I think the body shop is going to work with me to minimize my deductible!

Don't do it. That's insurance fraud.

I think he just means that his body guy will take a little less than the check, to lessen the hit. Pretty common in my experience.

Right. They said they can fix it for less than the estimate. Plus I can put the hood stripes on myself.

That really sucks, I would be so pissed off at mother nature. How and the hell do they even fix that?

That could be from re-using towels, or dirty towels. Some Car washes are good place to pick them up.

True. I want to get one of those Shamwow things to dry mine along with the standard chamois.

Everytime you touch the paint you are creating marks. The best way to avoid them is to use the cleanest tools possible to clean. I use a leaf blower to dry my vehicles and haven't touched the cobra with anything but pressurized prewash in over a year.

Dont get a shamwow, they leave lint and streaks and water spots. Its garbage. Get a synthetic chamois. Ive had the same one for 10 years! The real chamois are good too but dry up too easily. Heres a trick for synthetic and real chamois...moisten it and store it in a tupperware container. If you let it dry out completely they lose their integrity and crack and get old very fast. Storing this way with a real chamois will make it smell like dog crap though so all the more reason to go synthetic.

Sorry for off topic im just looking out for ya

We don't get nearly that much here, but it seems like the midwest gets alot. Also make sure they use PDR where possible.

The Absorber is a good brand, and sometimes you'll find them on sale, off colors though. As I say, I could care less about the color, I'm concerned with price, and function.
