I just bought an unpainted hood scoop off eBay sold by Roush for $119. I'm going to attempt to paint it myself and if it turns out good, install. I figured that even though it isn't dirt cheap, it's way lower than I'd ever find painted. If it doesn't come out acceptable, I'll have a shop repaint it at some point.

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

Excellent idea......thats how I started doing stuff long time ago..in a galaxy quite close..LOL! Try it myself......now look at me, the mad scientist customizer.
Give it a shot JS..take your time on the prep work and make sure you check the humidity prior to painting..if its too high..wait for better conditions

Low humidity, in Florida? I'm going to be waiting a while haha.

Thanks for the encouragement though. Any suggestions on avoiding/dealing with inconsistencies or orange peal? You can't really wet sand metallic paint, right?

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

you just have to pick the right time in the day....
hmmm...its fussy to wet sand, just take your time....dont get closer than 6-7 inches to it while painting. I like to mist items a couple of passes...then let it sit while I study how the surface is taking it in....then go for heavier coats.
Just dont get greedy.....teeny imperfections can be coated over once again...but if you sand one area....it may effect the whole thing.

---------- Post added at 07:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:50 PM ----------

my pic of the engine bay just posted today is an example...the airaid intake tube had an imperfection that didnt show up when I sanded it down.....but after an extra cost...it blended in nicely.....
its not perfect......but after all i've done over the years, you have to find the fine line between getting greedy and dealing with it....

---------- Post added at 07:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 PM ----------

sorry...extra coat. yawn..long day

On, thanks for the suggestions. I'm excited to do it but apprehensive as well. And that's not even discussing my reservations about putting a hood scoop on a car with the Pony Package grille. I still haven seen one of those anywhere to see if it will look good.

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

I think it will look great. It'd be nice if someone made a pony package grille with the V6 foglights like they did in the 2007-09 run....but give it the billet look of the MCA or Cali special grille...

I'm thinking of maybe darkening the chrome of the Pony grille, especially with the new GT takeoff headlights I just got.

Mine finally got here and I just finished installing them. I will post some pics tomorrow where you can see them good. (its in the garage now) Be very patient when you install them. There is no going back once the tape is on.

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

stig, maybe you will at least get them during the day. My house is at the end of the UPS route, so every time I order something I have to wait until 7 or 8 at night on the delivery day.

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

Yeah i doubt it, looks like next week now. Its almost 7am and still at customs! All my other orders were in 3-4 days, I'd get home and have box(es) just sitting at my doorstep (cant believe they dont have us sign but its a good thing i guess)

I live just outside of toronto so the package usually passes through the ny border, at Fort Erie customs right now.

Thanks. Do you know where I can find some covers for the inside of the quarter windows? I don't like the look from the inside and I can't find any on American Muscle

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

Nevermind, just found and ordered some from Classic Design Concepts. I wouldn't have needed them if American Muscle had done a better job painting the louvers. The inside of the louver is black with red fingerprints all over it from the painters, had to order covers to cover up the ugliness.

Can u post the link? I noticed in customer photos there is overspray so i want inside covers too.

Customs has managed to keep my louvers for 3 days and counting. Cuz you know, louvers are a massive threat to canadian national security.

By the way i think louvers look best on red, they look great on yours!

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

Thanks. Love my red stang!

Here is the link. Mustang Quarter Window Blackout (05-12) - Classic Design Concepts Store

Took me forever to find these. I can't believe that American Muscle doesn't carry them, considering that they have other CDC stuff.

Im thinking mine wont look bad from inside as i already have the windows tinted at 20 percent and my paint is dark. I kinda like seeing the 3 cracks of light.

Maybe not. I just don't like the look from the inside. It is just a matter of opinion I guess.

Is it safe to go through an automatic car wash with them taped on? What about side scoops?

I think I'll just hand wash it to be safe. I have an aftermarket sunroof wind deflector on my other car, was told not to take it through a touch wash... I went through a touch-free wash and it popped right off when the dryer came back to front.

Re: Quarter Window Louvers

they do that quite well
always hand washed my rides ever since I worked for a full service car wash in 1988...very disappointed in what they call 'touchless'...errrrr
So when I go on trips...self serve car wash...pressure gun rinse and soap, bring my own sponge...rinse it back off, dry it...touch up wax on the front end (bug removal), re armor all..and im on my way....

Got mine from ebay. They are a little beefier than what AM offers. I want to say i paid around $200. Either way, they make the car look a lot meaner.
