Wax before or after plastdip?

I'm considering plastdipping a super snake stripe on my car since its a cheap alternative and from what I've seen looks pretty good. The question is will a fresh wax affect it? The reason I want to wax beforehand is because I don't want to have to worry about avoiding the stripes with the wax once they're on

Re: Wax before or after plastdip?

9 times out of ten...wax affects any attempts at painting. I applaud your efforts of saving time later....but what are you going to do down the road?

Best to wipe the areas you plan to dip down with glass cleaner (quick and easy way to remove the wax) and tape off and go for it. After its been on for over a week....use a quick detailer or spray wax of some kind....less apt to affect it than regular bottled wax

It will make your paint bead like water.

Good to know. Thanks guys. I'll play it safe and do the plastidip first for a better application and just bite the bullet on waxing around them afterwards. That's if I do the plastidip. Im gonna get a can of it today and do a test run on my stock bumper that I replaced with the gt bumper to see if I like the result

Did a test run on my old bumper, looks sick! The stripes aren't exactly even but I have a laser for when it's time to do the real deal. Other than that it came out perfect and I think I'll be doing it sooner than later.

Thanks guys! I'll be sure to post pics. Now another question, how long can plasti dip last? Is it unsafe for the paint to keep it on for a very extended period of time?

Re: Wax before or after plastdip?

dont know that one...im new to this product myself. have a billet grille a customer wants me to treat with plasti dip so itll be a new experience for me...always used VHT satin paint. I dont think it will hurt the paint...thinkmit might protect it....but youll know where it was if you ever pull it off im sure....

Why do you say you'll know where it was? Because the other paint will get normal wear while the paint under the plastidip is protected?
