v6 120mph guage?

So my v6 has gauges that go to 150mph... and i've read that v6's are only 120.. did they change that in 2012?

Yes I believe that is new. Although they are software limited to like 113 they can go well beyond that all though I heard that drive shaft failure occurs above 130. I have a 2010 GT that's software limited to 147 but the speedometer only goes to 140. Go figure. Thinking about switching out the gauges someday.

And your tires rating, the driveshaft is two piece for comfort but makes it have a fail point. Most tires are rated for 118 on the v6 models. (I did tons of tire shopping) the governor limit is 113 but I've had mine at 120 with t/c off? The driveshaft fails at 130 or 115. I've heard both replies but never researched after I heard this statement. So all these breaking points are within the 115-130 range, but our v8 brothers can go well beyond this. Spuds like ford may have jipped us:/

My gauges top out at 160 too. Not that I'm ever going to see that kind of speed in my 3.7, but it still has 160 as a ending number.

Re: v6 120mph guage?

I was wrong, yep mine is 160. I find it odd to include 160 gauges and then design the car to start breaking near 110

I take it the gt has different drive shaft then it's v6 counter parts? Our does the gt stll start to fail around 113 as well?

Yeah gt has a different d.s. But the v6 is capable of goin above 113 once you tune it. It's a safety feature, why be mad at it? Lol

Re: v6 120mph guage?

I thought briefly about getting the driveshaft and lifting the governor, but then I realized you better have an amazing Racing suspension and amazing Brembo brakes brakes if you are going to top out at 140+ and live to tell the tale. Otherwise you're just asking for disaster.

Re: v6 120mph guage?

i do have a tune to go past 113... and now im paranoid.. i started gunning it and once i hit near 115 i swear i started smelling burning... sigh.. looks like driveshaft and tires are next mods on my list after the ones i've already ordered. Any other performance quarks i should know about?

Oh and i happened to be at the ford dealer and at least none of the reps have ever heard of the drive shaft failing

---------- Post added at 10:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:42 PM ----------

but they have heard of the tires being an issue

Wait, what is that burning? Rubber or something mechanical. I smelt it too when I hit those speeds for over say 5 minutes. Js. It's kinda scary

Newer engines do that I have noticed. Don't know what it is burning under the hood but it should slowly go away as you continue to run it that way.

The driveshaft supposedly fails at 135. I know there's a video of it. But I've only heard of that one case. It was horrible to watch though and I wouldn't risk it. The tire rating though is what I believe to be the main reason for the speed limiter. Why you need to go faster then 135 though? But if you were, DS, tires, better suspension and brakes would be a must imo.
