Actually, I have heard before to use the synthetic blend until the engine properly broken in. Full synthetic will extend the break in time and is not good for the engine under 10k miles. I'm not an engineer just what I read somewhere. Anyone else hear of that?

Re: Oil for 2012 V6

The 3.7 V6 requires 5W-20 oil meeting ford specification WSS-M2C945-A

Do not use anything but 5W-20 synthetic oil or you will have problems.

I don't know where Red Stallion read that but it is not true for these modern engines. The oil has to stay thin to get through the small passages and flow faster to avoid getting hot and still lubricate like a 20 weight.

Your engine will break in fine using the proper oil. I believe changing it and the filter at about 3,000 miles the first time and 5,000 to 7,500 thereafter.

There are some great oil's such as Mobil 1-- Royal Purple-- Castrol Edge--Vavaline--- and the Oil at your local Ford Dealer.

Just be sure it is 5W-20 synthetic.

Re: Oil for 2012 V6

Hi Blackhorse,
Just be certain it is fully synthetic and has the gold certification seal on it. The 5W-20 is the correct viscosity for your car. SIX QUARTS for the 3.7 V-6

**************Do not use regular Motor Oil.*********************

It's so easy to walk into a Walmart, Autozone, or even K-mart and buy Mobil 1 or Castrol edge that there is no excuse for using crap oil in this day & age.

How so, besides extended drain intervals?

I'm having the dealer do it until the warranty's up; car comes with SEMI-synthetic Motorcraft oil and that's what I have them use.

Re: Oil for 2012 V6

I'm a little surprised with the posts here (then again, it's a message board so maybe I'm not)- Ford puts a synthetic BLEND in our cars but almost everyone is too busy talking about full synthetic.

My personal thoughts on the matter is that while I am under warranty, the dealership will be changing my oil. Yes it might be more expensive, although with deals it really isn't, but I'll be damned if they ever accuse a failure on an improper oil change. What this means is that my Stang gets Motorcraft Synthetic Blend.

^ + 1 I've been going to the dealers since I bought mine in 08.

My dealership sends me coupons. Motorcraft is great oil! Ford puts alot of money into that.

Just make sure you sign up for the Ford Owner Advantage, and check the Ford owners sight for coupons.

Re: Oil for 2012 V6

What I can tell you is given what I've seen many car shows and in many Mustang magazines, Royal Purple puts everything else to shame. Checking on the prices when I last changed my oil, the price difference from ANY of the semi-synthetics and full synthetics to the Royal Purple was less than a dollar a quart. With all that in mind, I went with the Royal Purple.

Now, if you read the owners manual, it does recommend Motorcraft oil, but every manufacturer recommends their own brand oil. The real truth is, that as long as the oil stands up to the specifications that the manufacturer requires, the oil will work and will not damage your engine. For our sixers, the only real way to get the correct specs in oil is either a synthetic blend or a full synthetic. Who cares which it is, both types perform to the exact same minimum specifications.

In the end, it's really all about how much money you are willing to spend and how much work you are willing to do. I like Royal Purple. I'm sure there are die hard Valvoline fanatics and some Castrol cultists along with some Amsoil outsiders. As long as you change your oil and keep it to the right level, the car could out live you.

Re: Oil for 2012 V6

so, last weekend i put full synthetic in my car. I paid for it, but my mom was pretty mad cuz i spent about twice as much on an oil change as she does. I know the benefits of synthetic oil, but my mom doesn't believe anything I say (that's car related).
any1 have any good links to synthetic vs regular oil?
thanks!
