tires

looks like i'll be treating my pony to a new set of tires soon. as much as i would love the staggered look, i'm keeping factory MCA rims, and i'd like to be able to rotate my tires (one of the reasons i'm getting rid of my current setup)... looking for suggestions on which tires i should go with... looking for a decent tire in the rain, but no ice/snow down here in LA... what do you guys recommend?

Yeah, I was running the same 235's but in pirelli pzero's burned through em in about 30k so replaced them with the same brand but 255/50/18 their a little bit wider, slightly and they feel pretty good.

I'm holding off in a good set of tires because I wanna get some staggered wheels pretty soon.

Re: tires

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Car & driver tested 9 different tires and the P-Zero failed miserably The Bridgestone Potenza S -04 pole position came in second best.

It would be wise for you to get the August 2012 edition of Car & Driver just to read the tire test article.

If I could sell these P-Zeros I would put a set of Michelins on in a heartbeat.
I have used Michelins on every high performance car I have ever owned.

Can someone tell me what staggered means? I was looking at a new set of wheels and they are staggered, but I don't know what that means...

The rear wheels are wider than the front. For example a staggered set would have 17x9 for the front and 17x10.5 for the rear.

Mainly for looks. Only downside is you cant rotate your tires.

Better traction. If you have all this power going to your rear wheels then you need to be able to put that power down. Wider wheels/tires help a lot. If it's a DD then staggered might not be the best setup though as you can't rotate them. Unless you don't mind paying for more tires. It also looks soo much better! I'd never run anything but staggered on any stang or RWD car I ever own.

will take a look at them.

what's you guys opinion on the Nitto NT555s?

I had the NT555Rs on my 88 fox in the rear, and i loved them. wish i could slap those on the '11, but i don't have the kind of money to continuously replace tires and unfortunately my '11 is a DD so she sees a lot of miles.

---------- Post added at 07:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:39 AM ----------

just checked out the Nitto Motivo also. pretty impressive 60k warranty... highly rated tire.

my fight here is that i want something good in rain, but also decent in performance...

Staggered wheels can cause under steer if you like to corner hard/fast..

If you could afford a Boss or GT500, I'm sure buying new tires wouldn't be too much of a problem :/

I recommend bfg kdw2. Had nothing but good traction and wear out of them. Just picked up a pair for the front of my car

Re: tires

well Cyclone...if one had saved long and hard to get one...new shoes for it every 20K would begin to really suck, you know.....
I'd have to change them to same size wheels and tires all around and have the dealer repflash the pcm to adjust traction and abs for the change up

Re: tires

spoke too soon. Have a customer who just bought a Boss 302 in my color and wants to do just what I wanted. He wants the laguna seca rims with p zero neros and they will be 19 x 9 all around with 245/45/19. Talked to my local dealer to reflash the pcm to adjust traction and abs...they said for me, it was free, as im getting the tires/wheels from them at cost (1250). were gonna have fun with the black and body color for a diff look,,,hee hee

---------- Post added at 06:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:24 PM ----------

so look for a set right off the boss in staggered on eBay within a month

---------- Post added at 06:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:25 PM ----------

Id get nitto if my 450s wete still available in that size...as for the 555s...too expensive..and for what benefit..?

If the car came with 18" wheels, can you put 17" or 19" wheels on without doing anything else? By that I mean, is there some kind of calibration that needs to happen if you change wheel size?

i love the price of the P zero nero. but not crazy about the reviews...looking at around $600 for the pirellis vs. $900 for the KDW2s....

i have KDWs in the rear already, that aren't too bad off. might just get 2 of the KDW2s and replace the other 2 a few months from now...

or

i could get all 4 and keep my current KDWs as spares if needed...

oh, i just don't know. i hate making these decisions...
