Automatic Shifter

So after reading through the latest and greatest manual vs. auto thread, I have came to the conclusion that I really don't like the appearance of my automatic shifter. It's big, bulky and stands out compared to the stock manual shifter.

Is there any way to change the appearance of my auto shifter to look like a manual but still keep the functional auto transmission? I know it sounds silly and probably impracticable, but maybe there's a way?

Re: Automatic Shifter

im sure if you google it...there has to be something out there. shame its that big or you could convert it to a simple shift ball, and bypass the buttons

Re: Automatic Shifter

Look and see if you can swap a shifter from another Ford vehicle. Usually manufacturers used the same shaft design in vehicles. Just about all of the GM shifters in the early '00 would swap: Camaros, Vettes, Grand Prixs, just to name a few.

Re: Automatic Shifter

I don't mind it :/ I actually prefer it over the tiny shifter on my Versa.

Re: Automatic Shifter

I like the idea of the ratchet shifter, but it still is ugly and bulky. (And also $500!) I've been doing a little bit of research and although rare, they'res kits out there like this one...

Google Image Result for http://image.musclemustangfastfords.com/f/tech/mmfp_1005_2006_ford_mustang_gt_complete_pony_services_mach_ii_automatic_shifter/28557691+pheader_460x1000/mmfp_1005_01_o+2006_ford_mustang_gt+shifter.jpg

How it works is you press the ball down to shift and it's as simple as that. There's a guy on Allfordmustangs.com fourm that has done this install on numourse 05-09 auto's but nothing for the 11-13' yet. I like this idea, but wish there was a way to make it shorter like the manual's.

hahaha that's great. The 13's auto shift knob isn't that bad. Could I swap my stock 11' to a stock 13'?

Re: Automatic Shifter

you probably could do that....
That Mach 2 shifter if a bit odd...but would fool most folks into thinking you had a manual.....does it come in other colors..?

I'm sure that you can change the shifter with that option.

That would be really neat if we could get the 13' shifter with the side buttons. Hmmmm..... Guess I gotta take a trip to the dealer eh??!

Have you heard of SMG? An option avail on BMW M3 and sone Ferrari's. Retro fit one onto your stang.......joking.

It would be easier just to install a manual tranny onto your car
