2013 changes

Hey guys, I'm so angry at ford. 6 months after I buy my 2012 stang they come up with a redesigned 13. I love the front headlights and the glossy back. Is there anyway I can buy those parts on my 12?

Re: 2013 changes

I would be upset too but at least it's mainly cosmetic...I bet those guys who ran out and bought 2010's were really pissed when the formal announcement was made about the 2011 engines.

The rear additions may be done but I'm not sure about the headlights...I believe the bumper, hood, lights, basically the whole front fascia is different, so I'm not sure you could simply add the headlights.

You know there's only one thing better than 1 mustang...2 mustangs! You might have to give your 2012 some company

Re: 2013 changes

Yea I would be a lot more upset if I rushed out and got a 10' 4.0 and then realized the 11' 3.7 was going to just pure dominate the 10'.

I can understand your frustration as well, but it's like a lot of things today, we get the newest and best item, then a short time down the road the manufacture puts out something newer and better. It's the life we live in and there's nothing we can do about it!

I know AM was in the works of getting a 13' light kit for the 10'-12' awhile back, but I don't think it's on the market yet. The front halos you can get aftermarket, I don't know if they're the same ones, but they're halos at least. If you like the 13's that much more and you only had your 12' for a short period of time, why not trade it in? I'm sure you would get a decent buck for it...

I don't like the exterior changes on the 13. I parked my 12 next to a 13 and the 13 just looked so big and tall next to mine. The front is alright although I prefer the 10-12 GT front more, but hate the painted rockers and rear valence. Looks like a fat pig imo. 10-12's look sleeker.

I do like the headlights and taillights and recaros are sweet but other then that don't really care. If I had a 13 I'd end up swapping exteriors with a 10-12.

Re: 2013 changes

I like the '12 hood much better too. The 13' hood looks a little tubular, a little weird. I hope that doesn't get carried through all the way to the '15, but I have a feeling...

I would trade it in but I have to pay about 8k more and my car only has 2000kms on it so not worth it. I also don't like the hood, I only like the front headlights and the glossy back LEDs. So American muscle is making a lights kit that's nice to hear.

Where can I find the front halos? I live in Canada if that makes any difference.

AM sells the front halos, made by Raxiom. You could also get HID optioned headlights off a wrecked car or ebay. They look very similar to the '13s.

Im debating on getting the 14 50th anniversary, or the 15 that ford has promised will be smaller... maybe as small as the fr-s?

I think they mean the stock ones. I know it's a long shot but they make the 2012 Shelby front end for the v6 and maybe you an get it to work. It's cool how the core and frame is the same just the panels and materials are different. The 2013 is the 2012 Shelby. And the 10-12 is the 05-09 Shelby.

Doubt it'd be that small. The FRS is a pretty sweet looking car though. I've been thinking about one. Want to take one for a test drive and see how it is. They've got no power though. Would need a supercharger.

Re: 2013 changes

I went in december to buy a 13 as i knew they were coming, they werent taking orders yet and there was a 0 percent financing incentive plus other rebates if i ordered one of the last 12's, so i did it and got the car in march too where id have to wait till july and get no incentives if i ordered a 13. Now i love my decision. I saved about $8000 going with the 12, still was able to custom order everything i wanted, and now that i compare, i prefer the power dome hood on mine and the lower slope on the 12, even the painted rocker panels bug me it does look kinda fat

I ordered hids though as that will be the big difference up front, i know theyre sorta diff on the 13 but they are close.

I woulda liked the lcd in the dash though, and the puddle lights.....if i can get that retrofitted ill do it

Re: 2013 changes

I like that HID's are standard. I don't like the front as much, and i am still undecided on the new tail lights. I haven't seen one in the wild yet to make a good assumption.

Buyer's remorse: everyone get's it. My dealer became a Roush dealer and got a few 2012 models a few weeks after i bought my 2012. They had one at a really good deal, that i may have been tempted to buy if it was on the lot, but i still am happy with my v6 pony package.

I just wish Ford would let you combine the Pony package options with the performance package options. The only thing i really wish my V6 had was better gears.

I prefer the more retro headlights on the 10-12

Re: 2013 changes

I had buyers remorse over getting the MCA instead of a base GT, until very very late one night, I drifted a 90 degree turn and my *** stuck out just a little too much. In a GT, the extra 100 pounds in the block would have put me into the parked cars I just missed. So leather seats, billet grille, Shaker soundsystem, and no $5,000 insurance claim. That's what I call coming out ahead.

Re: 2013 changes

The tail lights and bumper will swap over no issues. IF you are going to swap the nose just get a GT500 one. You would have to swap the hood and everything to do the front end so just go all the way and by the GT500 conversion. I think they sell on ebay for under 2 grand... Complete kit OEM Ford. Just need to paint it.

I bought a 13 and was holding out to see what the 15 looked like but once I saw the rear of the 13 and the GT500ish nose I was sold.

Re: 2013 changes

I would sell your 12 and get the 13. One of the main differences between them is not the outside lights, but the inside. The 13' has track apps, it has a little LCD screen instead of dials in the middle of the two main dials on your dash. It shows digital displays, and has track apps, that record race times. Its really cool.

Dude, your missing out, track apps is awesome. The two things I mainly use is the acceleration tracker, which shows the cars center of gravity live, helps with turns, and the MPG meter, shows how many miles per gallon you are getting, also live.

IMHO, I would never get a basic stang, just a few bucks more, for hundreds of more features.

Re: 2013 changes

Honestly I have had dpic gauges and screens all which tell you that stuff and more... I got tired of looking down at all that crap. When I saw it in the car I initially thought it was cool... Then 5 minutes into the test drive with it, I realized I was doing it again... After a while all that stuff will wear off and you will just drive the car and it becomes useless... The new factor leaves and you just drive the car... Same goes for my color... been there and done that. I opted for a car without it as well.

Mine tells me mpg and will tell me if its currently better or worse than my average in the information center. I'd use the center screen for additional gauges and that's it. That other stuff you can get with addon devices that measure Gs and accel/deccel times if I want them. Plus it won't cost me $4k~ more than mine did. That's more than a few dollars for some toys. If I had $8k more to spend, I would have gotten a 5.0 and still been without them, and been perfectly happy.

Currently, the only things I want for my car that I don't have are the Performance Pack and MCA. MCA would be mainly for the wheels/grill. I'll end up fixing that and the suspension stuff myself with even better components later. I'd love MyColor and Pony Projection lights, but it's not that big of a deal. I can probably retrofit the pony lights later on and wire them to the park lights.

I know that you can't add pony lights on later, but they do sell kits for the my color. So that you can always add later. Another thing that the Premiums have over the regulars is subs, makes the audio sound 100x better.

Aftermarket subs are 1000x better and you don't have to buy a $2k package for it. Lol... you can get pony projectors later. It's called buying a mirror with it and installing it yourself.

I'm practical and handy. I know what things are worth and how to do them myself if I want them. I put a supercharged engine in my Grand Prix that it didn't come with. I also wired in a digital information center, and may add a HUD at some point.

Ya I miss the Subs from my last one.... I guess you could get the door panels and the radio upgraded too from ebay or a wrecked car... All the other stuff though I dont miss. The my color in my old car. I set it to blue the day I got the car and never ever changed it... 7 years that way. I dont miss it at all but I never used it frequently. The subs though I miss the bigger sound. I am glad I dont have the pony lights under the mirrors... I dont like that at all. Different strokes for different strokes. I am happy that you like it MRKRABZ.

It's not worth swapping the speakers and such from a wrecked unit. Even the guys with the upgraded systems have said buying aftermarket is better. Just grab some sweet components from someone like Infinity.

Same with suspension. Takeoffs from PP cars are still not as good as aftermarket. When I go that route I'll end up with something better than stock without shelling out $2k that the package costs (must have mostly been the wheels).

Personally love the 11-12 look way more!

Re: 2013 changes

Totally agree on the aftermarket. My last one had an Alpine Nav radio on it and suspension from eibach, steeda, strange, etc. I changed ouy everthing and started with a premium package car.
