Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

Anyone else have this swishing kind of noise? Doesnt matter what gear. Just engaging and disengaging. Mine is new and needs break in time too but I am new to the dual mass flywheel and it makes a spring type sound or a woosh... I know the dual mass as counter springs in it so I am wondering if that is the sound. Only happens when car is in motion and on/ off clutch.

Thanks.

I should also add that the noise is only apparent with the radio and ac fan off. Very sublte and doesnt affect drivability at all.

Yes mine does the same thing. It's normal, as far as I'm concerned.

Mine does the same! I always wondered myself if it was something to worry about but the shifting seems fine so I was never too concerned

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

I've noticed some sound differences if I let the rpms get over 3k and hit the clutch, it gets the springs and what not to activate/deactivate in the dual mass flywheel. Never really paid attention to much else. Must not be too bothersome for me.

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

It really doesn't bother me but last night i was fixated on it for a few miles and i just figured i would ask here. I haven't ever had a car with a DMF and it is a different feel. I had read a lot of reviews on it (mostly negative) before I went on a test drive and I don't love it but it isn't too bad either.

I hate the vibration in the gear shift as rpms go down from the 3k~ mark. That cannot be good in the long run for bushings and drivetrain components. It doesn't bother me other than the fact I will replace it down the line.

After replacing my driveshaft with the aluminum one-piece driveshaft, this vibration almost a hundred percent went away

That isn't exactly reassuring news.

Mine has a little vibration in that RPM range too but not all the time. Again something I read about before I bought.

You have a 5.0, which doesn't have the crappy DS or the DMF.

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

DMF lets stupid plates slide around at certain rpms to change harmonics. Those plates moving cause all kinds of noises and vibrations when it occurs. It's almost like centrifugal clutches on R/C cars.

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

They were going to use the DMF on the 5.0 but the torque numbers were way too high. It would have blown the DMF apart. They tested and went with a good ol' hydraulic clutch and kept it much more simpler. That said, the torque numbers on the 5.0 stock are almost at where the MT82 starts taking a crap... Makes you wonder which is worse...

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

The torque limit numbers on the MT82 are for the weakest link (6th gear). The other gears can hold considerably more torque. Our V6s have regular hydraulic clutches too, same system as the 5.0 in fact. We just lack a regular flywheel.

Yes yes I dont know what I was writing lol. Yuu are right it is the flywheel that is different.

I havent read anything about a full bolt on modded car (including the drifeshaft and drag wheels and slicks) that has damaged the DMF but lots of boosted cars have had issues.

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

That's because boost increases the hp by quite a bit. Bolt ons, you're increasing HP by about 70-80hp max, with all the goodies? That's what I'm wagering anyway. The base procharger kit is more than double that.

Re: Does your clutch make a weird noise when engaging disengaging?

Yeah. With boost the base boost kit from Procharger, you are right around the hp and torque of a 11+ GT. Makes sense on why they wont hold up being that Ford didnt even use them on the 5.0.
