Gear ratio effect on tunes

Got a tuner question. I have a 12 Mustang v6 with a manuel trans and LCAs otherwise it's all stock. I've been told that if I put gears in it without putting a tune in it that it'll run worse than it does stock or not any better. Can anyone explain to me how the gears can even effect the tune. The only thing that I can see is the speedo calibration would be shot to hell, so how does the gear ratio affect the stock tune adversely. Please!

It should run fine since you have a manual transmission although the spedometer will be off. I remember reading that it will damage a automatic without a tune since the shift points change or something like that

Thanks for the reply man. Auto trans stuff does make some sense, with the stick it seems that it's the same data to the computer same decisions out. Don't think the data stream speed will be enough to overwhelm the computer. Would the gears work better with a tune, of course!

Re: Gear ratio effect on tunes

Same goes if you change tires size and the new wheels are taller/smaller (tire and wheel combined are visually taller/smaller if you put the old wheel and the new wheel side by side. With a manual only the speed and gas milage calculator will be + or - depending on if you go smaller or taller. On an auto it will throw off the speed and shift points as well as gas milage calulator etc. It is all controlled by the computer and RPM.
