i have seen a lot of people replace their licsense plate light for a much stronger white LED light. i wanted to do this and was wondering where you get this type of bulb and how you replace it

Ijdmtoy.com and you just use a screw driver to unscrew the two lights and replace them with LEDs

AM has them. All it takes is a screw driver.

That would look pretty sharp, might have to invest in those.

Re: licsense plates lights

I think it looks odd to have a VERY bright LED bulb illuminating your tag when your running lights are not nearly as bright, kind of steals focus to the tag and looks bad.

Getting clear or what ever lights is fine vs yellow just make sure they are not as bright. Also LED's dont take nearly the power to turn on, some have issue where they are ALWAYS on due to the small amount of power that it takes to run them. They wont be full power but very dim at night when its really dark you can notice~

Yeah, those SMD LED's stay lit slightly when they are off. It doesn't bother me. But what I do notice is, even with these hyper white bulbs, they turn to a light shade of a bluish purple over time. That bugs me. I have to change mine out about every 6 months.

Re: licsense plates lights

Ebay is the best bet, other places are too pricey for such a simple thing. My other ride (99 infiniti) has interior LEDs and license LEDs. I ended up making my own with resistors for some spots and those have lasted for years, ebay stuff is 50/50, some last forever, others die in a month. Your best bet is to buy from two different sellers as a backup and still save $$$.

Automotive 12V DC is not 12V, that alternator and all the electronics it has to run causes a ton of interference and spurious voltage, Eventually about half of my LED's in the Infiniti died, I got tired of replacing them and have converted everything back, except for the license LED's which look good still.

I got some for my stang because I like the look of the white (funny how we are trying to brighten what we should want hidden...our plates!) and the 10+ taillamps are actually LED's. I'm keeping the interior stock though, the ambient myford lighting is eye candy enough! I had 16x16 SMD LED boards in my dome lights of the infiniti, those things are BLINDING, I kept them in my map lights but not dome lights, everyone would complain when entering "Alien light"

They may take a month to get here but for a buck and a half, you can't beat it.

You should have bought the ones that have the plastic casing, those are exposed so they arent the greatest for exterior applications, but if you dont have winter weather you will be fine. Those may be a tad bit too bright, mine are 6 SMD and give off plenty of light.

FYI the trunk light has the same bulb size

Yes the trunk does. I did mine too. Yeah, they are pretty bright. My license plate lights light up the ground like underglows. Lol

Dang I wish I would've known that last year, I paid $30 if Ford didn't change the bulb style in '10 I'd have deal for you. I had to buy 2.

I'm looking into this since I have a tinted plate cover. Not the insanely dark ones but it needs a little more light. Does an advanced or autozone carry them?

I was looking more of convenience and plus, if, what if they break the bulbs by accident shipping.

Re: licsense plates lights

wont make yo feel better but they sent me some that did not work well at first and before i could even let them know that they didnt work well they had sent me a second set not sure if on purpose or not. so i assume if they shipped one broken they would replace it . but is not convenient.
